• Online access
– ‘Zichtbaarheid’ van de collectie op het web
– Voorbereiding opzoekingen
– Beeld en geluid: essentieel voor ontsluiting metadata.
• Conservering
– Beperken ‘manipulatie’ van het collectiemateriaal
– Verzekeren optimale bewaring/opslag van het origineel
– Noodzaak owv lange termijn bewaring / substitutie
(cf. magnetische dragers)
• Opportuniteiten
– Digitalisering onderdeel van de schenkingsovereenkomst
– Toegang verlenen tot collecties die elders bewaard worden.
