This chapter provides a synopsis of several SADC protocols and their implications for community participation in transboundary natural resource management in the ZIMOZA area. It analyzes the SADC Protocol on Forestry, Fisheries, Shared Watercourses, Wildlife Conservation and Law Enforcement, and Tourism. Most of the protocols encourage transboundary management of resources with an emphasis on harmonizing legislation to ensure uniform management and enforcement of policies across countries. The protocols recognize the importance of community participation, indigenous knowledge, gender inclusion, and community-based natural resource management, which are important for implementing projects in the ZIMOZA area and allowing communities to benefit.
