The Green Academies Project provides formal training, wider engagement opportunities, and apprenticeships for youth focusing on conservation and the natural environment. It started in 2009 with 2 formal partners and has since expanded to 8 partners and working with over 20 local organizations. The project has exceeded targets for accreditations, volunteer participation, and apprenticeships while raising additional funds and making improvements to national trust sites and urban green spaces. Challenges include capacity, accessibility, funding changes, sustaining partnerships, and planning for a changing climate. Learning outcomes include understanding urban communities' relationship with nature, practical conservation skills, partnership working, opportunities for social change funding, and growing support.

The group identified two primary ideas for safely transporting a Pringles chip through the mail without breaking it. The first idea involves encasing the chip in peanut butter inside a cardboard box, with at least an inch of space around the chip. Peanut butter and cardboard are edible and readily available materials. The second idea uses polyester stuffing, copper wire and cardboard to construct a protective "crib" for the chip. Copper wire and polyester stuffing can cushion the chip from impacts while cardboard forms the base. Both ideas use low-cost, accessible materials suited for protecting the fragile chip during postal transport.
The document discusses improvements made to a testing rack to reduce its weight. It evaluated size, shape, materials and parts used to identify areas for improvement. The steel base and many aluminum/steel parts were replaced with lighter garolite. Multiple racks could now be carried at once, further reducing weight. Mass analysis showed the final weight was reduced from 12.427 lbs to 5.456 lbs through these changes.
1) The document discusses developing a hydroelectric generator for rural areas in India and China that lack reliable access to power. These countries have large populations and rivers like the Ganges and Yangtze that could provide renewable hydropower.
2) Calculations show that a generator placed on the Ganges could produce around 35,000 watts of power, enough for small towns. Both countries' governments support increasing renewable energy.
3) Research was conducted on hydroelectric power generation formulas, turbine designs, and ensuring the generator could be built and maintained locally.
The project aims to design a renewable energy generator for developing countries, targeting both rural and urban consumers who lack reliable access to electricity. The designers - Susmit Sukthankar, Kevin Kubis, and Aakash Balaji - propose a generator that uses electromagnetic induction to create electricity during blackouts, addressing the frequent power outages in many third world nations. The design must use only recyclable and renewable materials that are widely available.
The Next Gen Cup has an integrated cylindrical compartment down the middle made of stainless steel to hold crushed ice. This isolates the ice so it cools the drink without water mixing in. When finished, the cylinder pops out and pours melted ice water. The cup itself is made of glass to stably hold the steel cylinder, and has a modern look with the central cylinder and suction lid.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
