Lightning Talk #9: How UX and Data Storytelling Can Shape Policy by Mika Aldabaux singapore
How can we take UX and Data Storytelling out of the tech context and use them to change the way government behaves?
Showcasing the truth is the highest goal of data storytelling. Because the design of a chart can affect the interpretation of data in a major way, one must wield visual tools with care and deliberation. Using quantitative facts to evoke an emotional response is best achieved with the combination of UX and data storytelling.
Succession “Losers”: What Happens to Executives Passed Over for the CEO Job?
By David F. Larcker, Stephen A. Miles, and Brian Tayan
Stanford Closer Look Series
Overview:
Shareholders pay considerable attention to the choice of executive selected as the new CEO whenever a change in leadership takes place. However, without an inside look at the leading candidates to assume the CEO role, it is difficult for shareholders to tell whether the board has made the correct choice. In this Closer Look, we examine CEO succession events among the largest 100 companies over a ten-year period to determine what happens to the executives who were not selected (i.e., the “succession losers”) and how they perform relative to those who were selected (the “succession winners”).
We ask:
• Are the executives selected for the CEO role really better than those passed over?
• What are the implications for understanding the labor market for executive talent?
• Are differences in performance due to operating conditions or quality of available talent?
• Are boards better at identifying CEO talent than other research generally suggests?

Narrated Business Proposal for the Philadelphia Eaglescamrynascott12
Slide 1:
Welcome, and thank you for joining me today. We will explore a strategic proposal to enhance parking and traffic management at Lincoln Financial Field, aiming to improve the overall fan experience and operational efficiency. This comprehensive plan addresses existing challenges and leverages innovative solutions to create a smoother and more enjoyable experience for our fans.
Slide 2:
Picture this: It’s a crisp fall afternoon, driving towards Lincoln Financial Field. The atmosphere is electric—tailgaters grilling, fans in Eagles jerseys creating a sea of green and white. The air buzzes with camaraderie and anticipation. You park, join the throng, and make your way to your seat. The stadium roars as the Eagles take the field, sending chills down your spine. Each play is a thrilling dance of strategy and skill. This is what being an Eagles fan is all about—the joy, the pride, and the shared experience.
Slide 3:
But now, the day is marred by frustration. The excitement wanes as you struggle to find a parking spot. The congestion is overwhelming, and tempers flare. The delays mean you miss the pre-game excitement, the tailgate camaraderie, and even the opening kick-off. After the game, the joy of victory or the shared solace of defeat is overshadowed by the stress of navigating out of the parking lot. The gridlock, honking horns, and endless waiting drain the energy and joy from what should have been an unforgettable experience.
Our proposal aims to eliminate these frustrations, ensuring that from arrival to departure, your experience is extraordinary. Efficient parking and smooth traffic flow are key to maintaining the high spirits and excitement that make game days special.
Slide 4:
The Philadelphia Eagles are not just a premier NFL team; they are an integral part of the community, hosting games, concerts, and various events at Lincoln Financial Field. Our state-of-the-art stadium is designed to provide a world-class experience for every attendee. Whether it's the thrill of game day, the excitement of a live concert, or the camaraderie of community events, we pride ourselves on delivering a fan-first experience and maintaining operational excellence across all our activities. Our commitment to our fans and community is unwavering, and we continuously strive to enhance every aspect of their experience, ensuring they leave with unforgettable memories.
Slide 5:
Recent trends show an increasing demand for efficient event logistics. Our customer feedback has consistently highlighted frustrations with parking and traffic. Surveys indicate that a significant number of fans are dissatisfied with the current parking situation. Comparisons with other venues like Citizens Bank Park and Wells Fargo Center reveal that we lag in terms of parking efficiency and convenience. These insights underscore the urgent need for innovation to meet and exceed fan expectations.

Belgium vs Romania Injuries and Patience in Belgium’s Euro Cup Germany Squad....Eticketing.co
Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco will wait for several key players to recover from injury. Even if it means they miss the opening Euro Cup Germany stages of the European Championship in Germany this month. Veteran defender Jan Vertonghen, midfielder Youri Tielemans and defender Arthur. Theate are being given time to play in the tournament because they are considered vital to Belgium’s cause, Tedesco said on Tuesday.

"Of course, you prefer to take players who are fully fit, but that's okay. We want to wait and be patient for some players even if they cannot play in those first matches," he told a press conference. The 37-year-old Vertonghen, Belgium’s Euro Cup 2024 most-capped international with 154 appearances, is struggling to shake off a groin injury.
"He will be there normally. This also applies to Youri Tielemans and Arthur Theate. The latter's position is very sensitive. We don't have many choices at left back. "It will only change if it turns out that they will only be available when, say, the final of the Euro 2024 Championship comes around. That's too long to wait. "However, I am confident that the injured boys are on track for the Euros.
Belgium vs Romania: Radu Dragusin Prepares for Crucial Role in Euro Cup Germany
Some of them have taken not one but two steps forward in their rehabilitation," he said. None of the injured players will feature in this week’s warm-up friendlies against Montenegro and Luxembourg. Romania centre-back Radu Dragusin found chances limited at Tottenham Hotspur in the second half of the 2023-24 season.
But is crucial to his country's cause at UEFA Euro 2024 where his aerial ability, physicality and hard graft make him a standout player. The 22-year-old moved to North London from Italian side Genoa in January but was kept on the sidelines by the form of another new arrival for the season, Mickey van de Ven, something Romania coach Edward Iordanescu admitted was a concern.
It will mean limited game-time going into the finals, but Dragusin, who cites Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk as a role model, started every Euro Cup Germany qualifier as Romania went through the campaign unbeaten in their 10 games. He will be among their most important players in their first game in Germany against Ukraine in Munich on June 17, taking the right centre-back role in what is likely to be a back four.

2011 Men’s Cross Country Season
Paul Short Invitational (Sept. 30, Bethlehem, PA)
Despite running without three of the squad’s top runners from last year, the men’s
team finished 13th out of 45 teams in the 8k race. 2010 CAA Rookie of the Year
Josh Hardin (Sterling, VA), a redshirt-sophomore, led the team with a 21st-place
finish (24:49). Redshirt-senior Tom Burke (Edina, MN) placed 63rd in 25:18, just
three seconds ahead of redshirt-freshman Rad Gunzenhauser (Pittsburgh, PA)
in 69th. Junior Chris Tyson (Arlington, VA) ran 25:27 for 83rd, and redshirt-
freshman Joshua Mercado (Citrus Heights, CA) ran 25:43 for 123rd. Redshirt
junior Liam Anastasia-Murphy (Gloucester, MA) and Tyler Jones (Chalfont, PA)
rounded out the scoring in 156th (25:53) and 159th (25:54). Hardin was named the
CAA Runner of the Week for his efforts, an honor also earned by Tyson and
Jones earlier in the season (at the Spider Alumni open and the W&M Invitational,
respectively).
Wisconsin Adidas Invitational (Oct. 14, Madison, WI)
The Tribe finished 27th on the 8k course, beating out nationally ranked New Mex-
ico (#25) and Florida (#28). Redshirt-junior Alex McGrath (Marlborough, NH;
96th), sixth-year grad student Lewis Woodard (Charlotte, NC; 121st), Tom Burke
(123rd), redshirt-junior and defending CAA champion Zach Gates (Fishers, IN;
134th), and Josh Hardin (152nd) all finished within 22 seconds of each other.
CAA Championships (Oct. 29, Hampton, GA)
The Tribe won its 12th consecutive (and 19th overall) CAA Championship in domi-
nating fashion by placing six runners on the All-CAA team. Zach Gates led the
way, running 25:05 to take second place on the 8k course. Tom Burke (4th,
25:17), Rad Gunzenhauser (5th, same time), Alex McGrath (6th, 25:24), Chris
Tyson (10th, 25:31), and Tyler Jones (11th, 25:37) earned All-CAA honors as
well. Also competing were redshirt-sophomore John Muller (LaGrangeville, NY;
13th in 25:44), redshirt-sophomore Zach Tennant (Fairview, WV; 15th in 25:55),
and Liam Anastasia-Murphy (17th, 26:04). Gunzenhauser, who finished 20
places ahead of any other freshman, was named the season’s CAA Rookie of the
Year. Coach Stephen Walsh won his second CAA Cross Country Coach of the
Year award in only his second year as head coach.
NCAA Southeast Region Championships (Nov. 12, Louisville, KY)
In the end, just 13 points stood between the Tribe and a fifteenth consecutive trip
to the NCAA
Cross County Championships. The team still performed above expectations by
finishing third with 152 points and beating nationally ranked opponents North
Carolina (#25) and Louisville (#26). Alex McGrath earned his first All-Region
honors by finishing 10th, with a time of 30:20 for 10k. Lewis Woodard (28th,
30:58.7), Zach Gates (29th, 30:59.0), Josh Hardin (41st, 31:15.0), and Tom
Burke (44th, 31:18.0) rounded out the scoring. Chris Tyson (45th, 31:20.2) and
Rad Gunzenhauser (126th, 33:02.4) also ran for the Tribe.

Women’s Cross Country Season
Paul Short Invitational (Sept. 30, Bethlehem, PA)
The Tribe finished 19th out of 45 teams in the 6k event, beating all four CAA
squads entered. Sophomore Elaina Balouris (Allison Park, PA), the reigning con-
ference Rookie of the Year, placed 16th in 20:59, and was later awarded CAA
Runner of the Week honors for her performance. Running in front of a hometown
crowd, freshman Jess Cygan (Bethlehem, PA), finished 117th in 22:29. Sopho-
more Kathleen Lautzenheiser (Midlothian, VA) was ten seconds back, and red-
shirt-freshman Clarissa Schick (Richmond, VA) ran 22:56. Redshirt-sophomore
Michelle Britto (Woodbridge, VA) was the team’s fifth runner in 23:00, finishing
just a hair in front of redshirt-junior Heather Beichner (Cary, NC) who was also
credited with a 23:00 finish.
Wisconsin Adidas Invitational (Oct. 14, Madison, WI)
The team placed 39th in the 6k race, led by Elaina Balouris, who ran 21:04.1 to
finish 66th. Jess Cygan crossed the line in 21:29.5 for 132nd, and Michelle Britto
was next in for W&M, running 21:44.7. Redshirt-freshman Lauren Strapp
(Raleigh, NC) and Heather Beichner finished together in 22:41.7 and 22:41.8,
respectively. Clarissa Schick rounded out W&M’s effort in 23:02.3.
CAA Championships (Oct. 29, Hampton, GA)
William and Mary finished second to James Madison at the conference champion-
ship, 45 to 32. Three women earned All-CAA honors: Elaina Balouris (2nd, 21:43
for 6k), Jess Cygnan (4th, 22:21), and Michelle Britto (8th, 22:42). Freshman
Dylan Hassett (Alpharetta, GA), just missed the all-conference cutoff with her
14th-place showing in 23:03. Completing the scoring lineup were redshirt-
freshman Lanie Smith (Reston, VA), 2008 Rookie of the Year Heather
Beichner, and senior Kristen Dietz (Springfield, VA), who placed 17th, 20th, and
21st, respectively. Also competing were Kathleen Lautzenheiser (23rd), Lauren
Strapp (29th), and redshirt-freshman Christina Lee (Sterling, VA; 41st).
NCAA Southeast Region Championships (Nov. 12, Louisville, KY)
W&M beat six teams with higher regional rankings, finishing 9th. Elaina Balouris
just missed qualifying for the national championships with a 9th-place finish
(20:36.8 for 6k). Her performance was the best for a Tribe runner since All-
American Ali Henderson ’04 finished seventh in 2003. Dylan Hassett crossed
the line in 63rd (21:51.7), just three seconds ahead of Michelle Britto in 69th.
Heather Beichner ran 22:18.5, and the team’s final two competitors finished less
than half-a-second apart, with Jess Cygan crossing in 22:31.4 and Lanie Smith
running 22:31.8.
