Tourette's syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary motor and vocal tics that begin in childhood. It is caused by abnormal activity in the basal ganglia region of the brain, which normally suppresses unwanted movements. While there is no cure, treatment may include medication and behavioral therapy to manage symptoms. Pursuing an M.Tech in neuroscience has helped the author better understand Tourette's by providing lectures, videos, and tests that increased their knowledge and interest in the subject.
