Web Design Patterns
In 1978, Christopher Alexander wrote a book about architecture (as in the design of buildings) called
A Pattern Language
. This identified over 250 common problems in architecture and proposed a similar number of design patterns to provide solutions to those problems. Since then many other disciplines have adopted the idea of design patterns.
Many of the design problems facing web designers are very common and are similar on most sites. It is therefore quite natural that many design patterns have been suggested as generic solutions to commonly recurring problems. So what problems would design patterns typically address? Here are some examples:
Establishing what design is appropriate to each genre (type of website). Van Duyne, Landy, and Hong (2007) suggest that personal e-commerce sites need to make it clear why people should purchase from them, provide multiple ways to find products, and avoid surprises by making privacy and security policies and additional charges clear. Web design therefore goes well beyond what XHTML code covered in this course to use to higher-level business objectives that are crucial to the organization.
Finding ways to make websites more easily navigable. This might involve placing tools to search and browse the site at the top of a page.
Helping customers to complete tasks by minimizing the number of steps required, providing progress bars to let customers know where they are in the process, and making sure the Back button always works.
Van Duyne, Landy, and Hong (2007) stress the importance of a website meeting the customer's needs (customer-centered design). This is not necessarily something that a web programmer will be able to assess. Websites are produced for a particular business purpose and there is likely to be a need for people with both business and technical computing skills to ensure that the business goals are met by those writing the code.
Web Usability
One of the main aims of design patterns is to promote usability, which may be defined as "the extent to which a product can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals with ef.
Evaluating Perceived Quality of B-School WebsitesIOSR Journals
Websites are a window for the world for looking in most of the Information and a gateway for many activities. Websites are not only a necessity but also mandatory for B-Schools. A B-School Website serves as portal to all stakeholders in addition to being an information placeholder. The Websites serves from being an administrative tool to a Learning Management system. The utility and the effectiveness of website depend on the quality of the service it provides to the surfer. A study was undertaken to survey the various features of a B-School Website that could serve as a Quality Function Deployment (QFD) touchstones. In addition, the influence of perceived quality on the user satisfaction was also studied. A focus group of B-School Students evaluated the Websites and scored a checklist cum questionnaire. The results highlight the most frequently found features and the least found features of a B-School Website. The factors that are important for creating a quality website are also found. This study will help the B-school administrators and the Website designers to create a quality and satisfying Websites.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

1. LEED Site Assessment Essay
LEED evaluates this under site assessment report on credentials such as Solar exposure, heat island
effect potential, and seasonal sun angles, prevailing winds, monthly precipitation and temperature
ranges.
This part requires stating the average annual and monthly precipitation, humidity, and temperature of
the site. Also involves provisions to identify onsite conditions of the site that could potentially
provide opportunities for renewable energy strategies such as wind, solar, and geothermal. Sites that
are designed to thrive within their natural climatic conditions require fewer resources to sustain as
they are tailored for those weather conditions. Othe climatic aspects like rainfall and temperatures
affect design issues such as...show more content...
Human Use –
LEED rates this factor based on adjacent transportation infrastructure, adjacent properties, existing
recycle/reuse of potential construction materials.
Reusing and recycling materials reduce the use of natural resources, which further protects habitat
destruction, reduces waste generation and pollution. Existing public infrastructure can influence the
site selection for buildings and hence the current LEED site assessment process involves reporting of
the neighboring buildings and facilities. LEED also accounts for the energy used in commuting to
and from the building site and hence has provisions to report proximity to any kind of transportation
infrastructure in site assessment.
Human Health Impacts –
As stated earlier LEED acknowledges the construction of a building at a site and all its impacts on
the existing ecosystem. It evaluates the proximity of vulnerable populations, adjacent physical
activity opportunities and proximity to large sources of air pollution. The construction of a building
may lead to an addition of several unwanted and harmful emissions into the ecosystem. Hence
building use is defined and all possible effects on local population are determined to avoid any
unpredicted future damage to health and lifestyle of the present population at the site.
Efficacy of Site Assessment
Site assessment is a fundamental part of site sustainability credit of the rating system. Although site

2. Critique of a Website Essay
Critique of a Website
Web sites are just like magazines, newspapers, brochures, menus, or even directions on how to make
nitroglycerin from house–hold goods, in that they all have to be put together in such a manner that
whoever is reading or browsing over it will be able to clearly distinguish this from that. In this
sense, a critique of any particular web site will have justification, while carefully considering also
that this is an altogether new medium of information exchange. Now, all of this talk of togetherness
is actually a general reference to basic design principles, such as color coordination, if color is used,
text size, font choice/ style, art integration, accessibility, and just plain and simple design of the
page. For...show more content...
I'm not saying make–up is evil, but we all know what's in somewhat good taste, and what isn't. But,
hey!, I could be wrong: There could actually be a great person hiding under that crusty exterior;
most of the time there is. A balance needs to be achieved or at least strived for when designing aweb
page or any page for that matter. I'm not trying to rag on Raygun or anything, because I like A
LOT of the stuff that they do, but one must not get carried away with it and ignore what one is
supposed to be doing in the first place. For this reason I have chosen to pick on the Alternative X
web site (http://www.altx.com/), for this paper. Well, not really pick on them, but you know
what I mean. So in our quest to discover the ideal web page we must look at the following things: 1)
Does it make sense? Is its layout so erratic in such a way as to render the viewer blind because of the
designers lack of vision and utter stupidity? 2) Organization. How and why were things placed in
the places they were placed, needs to be known, or at least made seemingly apparant. 3) Since this is
a web site we are critiquing, and like a Choose–Your–Own–Adventure Book one can skip to another
section with almost no fear of being inquisitioned, does its "links" lead to somewhere meaningful?
The first thing one sees when first viewing this page is a yellow screen with a single "X" in the
center with "alt" typed across it. Nice. Let me go off on a tangent here: I

3. Site Structure Listing
Site Structure Introduction The evolution of the make–to–order business model for tablet PCs based
on the Google Android operating system is ready to enter the next phase of its website development,
which is metaphor definition, site structure listing and the creation fo a design document. Implicit in
the site structure definition is the flexibility of allowing prospective and existing customers to
personalize the site for their unique needs, preferences and wants. The ability to create a highly
personalized user experience online is critical to the success of any e–commerce or online initiative
(Perugini, 2010). Throughout this chapter the key attributes that increase consumer purchase
intention are defined in the context of the build–to–order process online through a tablet configurator
and workflow design (Chen, Hsu, Lin, 2010). Metaphor Definition It is common to find websites
that align with a specific metaphor ranging from the functional, to organizational and visual as well.
The metaphor for this website is based on freedom from being constrained by a bulky, expensive
and partially–configurable laptop computer that often can't connect easily to the Internet. The
freedom metaphor will be pervasive throughout the entire site with visual metaphors of students not
having to lug around heavy laptops, just a build–to–order based tablet PC. There will also be visual
metaphors of freedom for road warriors who have ditched their laptops and now travel exclusively

After visiting and examining the PBS Web site, I was able to conclude that it is an extremely
successful entertainment and educational site. The Web site has won many substantial awards,
including the prestigious "Webbie Award" in 1998 and 1999. According to a recent survey, fifty
–six
percent of users at the PBS Web site are male and sixty percent are between the ages of eighteen and
forty–four. Forty–four percent of the Web site users have children and fifty–seven percent make
online purchases. (Gallup/Plaw Release: Survey of 40,000 Internet Users. Fall 1998.) The design of
the Web site is very bright and appealing to the eye. Its layout is inviting and easy to navigate. Its
design is consistent through all pages. There are many...show more content...
Another main section in the PBS Web site is called "TeacherSource." Its articles offer teachers
advice on incorporating cable, video, and the Internet into their classrooms and lessons. The
"Indie Scene" section concerns independent films and videos. It includes film reviews, a schedule
of movies, and interviews with filmmakers. The site has two different news sections, " Online
Newshour" and "News & Views." The "Online Newshour" section has up to date objective articles
with many photos. It also includes a new section geared towards high school students. The "News
& Views" section also deals with up to date news, but in a more subjective way. This section
includes opinion articles from a variety of people concerning more controversial news issues.
The section also has its own discussion group where users are able to post and reply to many
different topics. Other main sections on the PBS site include Adult Learning, history, science,
technology, and arts. The Web site also has its own shopping site called "ShopPBS." Here users
are able to purchase videos and books about anything from the Olympics to the rainforest. The site
offers users to sign up to receive a weekly email newsletter called "PBS Previews." The site also
offers television listings for PBS. In addition, there is a section where users can view the annual
report of PBS and find out about possible employment with the company. There is also an extensive
section where people interested

Significance
High–performance, sustainable/green buildings have become a trend and are gradually entering the
mainstream as an important market sector in the United States and globally. Construction of a
sustainable building typically begins with the selection of a suitable site. A building's location and
orientation on a site impact not only a wide range of environmental factors but also security and
accessibility factors. The Site Assessment pilot credit for site sustainability measure promotes
understanding of the character of the site and the physical, biological, and cultural links between the
site and the surrounding landscape. Performing an inventory of the site maximizes the
environmental efficiency of design and provides an...show more content...
These maps are available through US Geological Survey, but in case of a precise assessment, a
licensed surveyor in accordance with specifications tailored to the construction could be required.
The topography influences aspects of the site, such as the microclimate, distribution of plant and
animal species, water movement, and storm water management practices. The goal of this section of
the LEED rating system is to promote options for minimizing disturbance and skillfully
incorporating the existing topography into the design.
2. Hydrology – LEED rates this point based on flood hazard areas, delineated wetlands, lakes,
streams, shorelines, rainwater collection and reuse opportunities, and TR–55 initial water storage
capacity of the site. Change of land use may sometimes result in a negative impact on water quality.
Contamination may occur from any of the construction side effects, such erosion and sedimentation,
chemicals, or microorganisms. Any site–disturbing activities can increase the risks of flooding,
erosion, and other ecological impacts to properties. Hence all such components and risks are
considered under the hydrology part of the site assessment report.
3. Climate – LEED evaluates climate under site assessment report on credentials such as solar
exposure, heat island effect potential, seasonal sun angles, prevailing winds, monthly precipitation,
and temperature ranges.

Sometimes it seems like the computer game industry is dying, crushed to death by its own bulk.
Every year more and more gaming companies get gobbled up into huge conglomerates like
Electronic Arts, companies that mostly put out trash that is technically and visually impressive, but
devoid of concept and content. However, there are some small gaming companies that buck the
trend. While mostly just small groups of programmers and artists, some are huge unions of fans who,
irritated with the dropping quality of computer games, have decided to use the power of the internet
to get together and to produce games tailor–made to their personal preferences.
For the sake of comparison, Electronic Arts' website...show more content...
The first level removed from EA Games is the small gaming company. Moonpod Games ( http:/
/www.moonpod.com/), a company made up of a small but skilled group of game makers who
previously worked under different companies making other games (some well known, some more
obscure), is a good representative of this kind of game producer.
Just because Moonpod is a small business doesn't mean it doesn't know its web design. The site is
very well done and much more informative than even the EA site–– it has to be, since the company
doesn't have the money to make separate sites every time it comes up with a new game.
The organization of the website itself is fairly basic. A centrally–located news column makes
announcements about new features, patches, or game releases. A navigation bar on the left–hand
side allows easy access to the different parts of the website, and beautiful, eye–catching screenshots
on the right take one to a synopsis of the games from which they come (although the buttons on the
left do that as well). The contents of the center and right–hand portions change when one accesses a
part of the site specific to one of the games, changing to a synopsis of and system requirements for
the game in the center, and screenshots and related links on the right. All in all, it is a simple but
effective design.
Without the funds available to a company like EA Games, Moonpod can't use its site simply to
advertise its products. It must

10. Essay on Website Design
Facebook, Myspace, Yahoo, Google, and Twitter are all websites that people use every day, but
how did they get there and how were they created? Website design is a process of assorting and
linking codes and graphics into a text editor such as notepad and then displaying it onto a web
browser. There is a large amount of things to remember for website design. Ranging from HTML,
CSS, and XHTML codes to scripting languages like Java Script. Website design has a vast history
considering it is a fairly young profession. Website design uses complex codes to create web pages
