Advanced Techniques for Testing Responsive Apps and Sites -- By Aakrit PrasadApplitools
** Full webinar recording: https://youtu.be/Y2MHNnWOznQ **
Responsive web design has become the preferred approach for building sites and apps that provide an optimal viewing and interaction experience on any phone, tablet, desktop or wearable device.
However, automatically testing these responsive sites and apps can be quite a challenge, due to the need to cover all supported layouts, their respective navigation, and visible content.
This presentation is part of an hands-on advanced hands-on session (https://youtu.be/Y2MHNnWOznQ) about how to effectively test apps and sites with responsive design -- and teaches you how to:
* Implement generic tests that work for all the layouts of your app
* Control the browser and viewport size in order to accurately target layout transition points
* Incorporate layout-specific assertions in your tests
* Effectively design responsive page objects
* Visually validate the correctness of your app’s layout
* Bonus: tips for planning and executing responsive website testing

Angular is an open-source front-end web development platform for building dynamic single-page applications. It was developed and is maintained by Google. Traditional web applications run from the server, requiring the client to request pages from the server on each user interaction. Single-page applications handle requests and rendering on the client-side using JavaScript, only requiring the server when data needs processing or business logic execution. Angular has evolved through several versions since its initial release in 2010. It is now a TypeScript-based framework that supports progressive web apps and mobile development. Major companies like Google, PayPal, and Microsoft use Angular for its component-based architecture, cross-platform capabilities, and productivity benefits.

This document discusses tips for reducing flakiness in automated UI tests. It defines flaky tests as tests that can sometimes pass and sometimes fail for the same code. Common causes of flakiness in UI tests are animations and network connections. The document recommends disabling animations through adb commands or APIs to reduce flakiness. It also discusses using EarlGrey to implement similar tips for reducing flakiness on iOS automated UI tests by enabling fast animations.
Angular Universal allows Angular applications to run outside of the browser by using the @angular/platform-server library. It addresses problems like SEO and startup performance by enabling server-side rendering. Preboot helps manage state transitions from server-rendered views to client-rendered views.
React Native is an open source JavaScript library created by Facebook that allows developers to build mobile apps using React. It enables sharing of over 85% of code between iOS and Android apps. Many companies including Facebook, Microsoft, and Samsung use React Native. React Native uses the same fundamental UI building blocks as regular iOS and Android apps while allowing developers to write code using JavaScript and React.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
