This document discusses the evolution of bootstrapping Rails applications from the initial Rails generation to modular templates called App Lego. It outlines how initial Rails apps took a lot of time to set up, then skeletons and templates sped things up but lacked modularity. App Lego used templates in a modular way, allowing developers to choose which features or modules to include. Each module is its own template that can be included. The document acknowledges some downsides like long command lines but outlines future plans to improve the user experience.
This document discusses functional and object oriented programming languages that run on the .NET framework. It specifically mentions F# as a functional-first language that compiles to MSIL and runs on the .NET Common Language Runtime, along with providing links to learn more about F# and find a local user group.
This document discusses scraping data using Sinatra and Hpricot in Ruby. It shows how to use Sinatra to build a simple web application that returns "Hello World!" for the '/hi' path. It also demonstrates using Hpricot to parse HTML from a weather website and extract the current temperature.
This document discusses the development of JRuby. It notes that JRuby is developed collaboratively by developers from around the world. Contributors can submit code via pull requests on GitHub or report bugs on Jira. Development involves tasks like cloning the JRuby code repository, making changes, and submitting pull requests for review.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
