Tom as an angry young man
 ThoughTom is a ideal hero, but he has many
bad sides. And an ideal hero should not have
any bad sides.
 His birth is out of wedlock as he is an
illegitimate child. He is not welcomed by
everyone and does not belong to any class. He
is just an individual to survive.
 Once squire Allworthy finds an infant and
inquires about it. Squire comes to know about
Jenny Jones but she is forced to accept that she
is the mother of that illegitimate child.
 Allworthy is affectionate forTom, but captain Bilfil
dislikes him.
 WhenTom is 14 years old, he become dishonest and
status doing robbery. But he steals for a good cause.
He helped the needy family of Allworthy’s
gamekeeper.
 Tom and the gamekeeper are once caught for killing
a bird butTom is noble as he refuses to tell that the
gamekeeper has killed the bird because if he told the
name then he would have been thrown out of the
job.
 Tom is so much good that he helps the starving
family of George and in order to help, sells his things
and gifts.
 Tom loves Sophia and she loves him too. He
gives her gifts but Bilfil is jealous and releases a
bird that tom has gifted Sophia.
 Molly is the daughter of Black George and many a
times seducesTom. After sometime she becomes
pregnant.
 Whenever Squire visitsTom, he is concerned for
Tom and along with him brings Sophia. But he
does not want to marry Sophia toTom instead he
wants to marry her to ‘one of the richest men in
the country’.
 Tom is thrown out of house with 500 pounds
when Allworthy comes to know aboutTom and
Sophia.ThenTom goes to London and faces
many problems.
 There he stays in a inn and once Sophia also
comes to stay in that inn and Sophia comes to
know thatTom was in bed with a wench. She
becomes angry.
 ThoughTom keeps relation with many women
but his true love is Sophia.Wherever in London
tom stays, people treat him kindly but he does
not remain at one place for a longer period.
 When he comes to know that he has been
making love with a lady who is his mother, he
feels guilty and says that “ I myself is the cause of
all misery. All the grateful mischief which have
been fallen, we are the consequences only of my
folly n vice.”
 Tom’s use of the word ‘consequences’ here is the
first instance of a recognition of a casual
relationship between events.
CONCLUSION
 Whatever happens, the society blames him for
it. Not everyone loves him and is mostly ignored
by everyone.
 When the society behaves abnormally with him
though his intention is not wrong.Then how can
one expect from tom to behave normally
towards society.
