SAILING EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
SY Wally b (34m) First Mate/Captain July 2010 – May 2014
I have been employed on SY Wally b for the past four years as First Mate. For the last 8 months of this I was captain.
Wally b is a 34 Meter sailing yacht (private and charter). The program was summer chartering and winter refit work. I
managed a major refit during winter 2011 / 2012 as acting Captain, which included complete paint job, change of
generators and teak decks as well as many other improvements. This involved overseeing all work and coordinating
contractors. Further refit work was required the following winter on the tanks, entertainment electrics as well as a normal
maintenance program. I took over as Captain in October 2013. Changing regulations meant that I dealt with implementing
MLC 2006, insurance, safety equipment, medical supplies, recruitment, charter enquiries and accounts as well as
overseeing contractors and crew.
SY William Tai (40m) First Mate Oct. 2009 – April 2010
I was employed as a full-time crew member for an Atlantic crossing followed by a Caribbean season. My responsibilities
were watch leader, rig maintenance, driving the tender, Vessel maintenance and team management.
SY Kalikobass II (30m) First Mate March 2008- May 2009
I joined the boat while it was in the shipyard in Antibes for the last three months of a major six-month refit. I was
responsible for the coordination and completion of this project. This involved replacing decks, hatches, and hydraulic
lines, redressing the mast, coordinating day workers and prepping the yacht for its sailing season. It was a busy charter
boat both in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. We also took part in the Antigua and Palma super yacht cups and the St
Barts bucket. I completed two crossings as watch leader and 30,000 miles.
2. SY Windrose of Amsterdam (148’) Delivery Crew April 2007-May 2007
I was employed as part of the delivery crew onboard the 148ft Schooner for the crossing from Barcelona to Antigua. I
prepared the boat for charter in the Caribbean including varnishing, deck scrubbing and general charter setup.
SY Lulworth 1920 Deckhand Summer 2007
I worked on the classic Gaff-rigged cutter Lulworth built originally in 1920, labelled as the restoration of the century. We
sailed the Mediterranean Classic Yacht Regatta circuit. She took up to 30 crew when racing and I was one of 11 full-time
crew. My role included being the mast man, running the middle of the boat, being in charge of port bottom mast runners
and general maintenance. I was heavily involved in the varnishing and repair work. I was employed for six months during
which time the boat was raced and chartered.
SY Mirabella V (75m) Deckhand Autumn 2005 - Winter 2006
I was a deckhand for 14 months in which my roles included rigging and sailing, cleaning, maintenance, watch keeping
duties and general upkeep of the yacht. I drove all tenders and ensured the guests’ safety on the water. It was a busy
charter boat both in the Caribbean and in the Mediterranean.

I was a deckhand for 6 months in which my roles included cleaning, general maintenance, watch keeping duties and being
responsible for all of the water sports equipment on board.
Neilson Active holidays (UK company) Yacht Trainer Summer 2004
Based in Nidri, Greece I worked as a yacht trainer and taught sailors of varying ability to improve their yacht-handling
skills. I skippered for guests in the Southern Ionian during week long flotilla holidays and carried out a wide variety of
yacht maintenance work.

I was employed as a sailing instructor in Turkey for 2 months based at Palm Beach. I taught guests to sail, was responsible

I was part of a delivery crew of six taking a Swan 65 from Ville-Franche to Umag in the North of Croatia. I completed

I participated in the ‘Voille d’Antibes’ on a W-class yacht for the duration of the regatta. I started as a grinder but,
following the first days racing, was promoted to sail trimmer.
St. Aubins Fort RYA Centre, Jersey Sailing Instructor 1998-2002
I worked at St. Aubins Fort as an Assistant Sailing Instructor in 1998 for 2 summer seasons. I gained my RYA Senior
Sailing Instructor qualification, with racing endorsement. I then took up the position of Sailing Manager of St. Aubins
Fort. This job involved instructing school children whilst ensuring their safety and helping them to become competent and
comfortable in and on the water.

I worked two seasons for 'Spisail' which involved working with clients in a match-racing environment onboard Beneteau
