Business Challenge
Since opening its first outlet in 1980, Majestic Wine has grown to become one of the UK’s largest
beverage retailers with more than 200 stores across the country.
Until recently it used a single broadband connection with wireless backup to link its stores with
head office and facilitate the acceptance of payment transactions. A separate standalone public
Wi-Fi network was deployed to stores to provide staff and customers with a basic Wi-Fi service.
This proved successful but store coverage meant that for some outlets the service was limited
and coverage unreliable. Majestic Wine recognised that it needed to upgrade its network and
contacted its broadband payments service provider Transaction Network Services (TNS).
Solution
TNS and Majestic Wine have designed a new fully redundant managed service which provides
point-of-sale (POS) retail services via a dedicated payments network with the ability to use multiple
failover capabilities.
The high speed Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) infrastructure deploys the PCI DSS compliant TNSLink for
POS solution using split ISP suppliers with two failovers and wireless back-up via TNS’ Global
Wireless Access roaming SIM service. Customers and employees are also benefiting from improved
highly available Wi-Fi services, providing full coverage throughout their stores. This enhances the
customer experience and allows digital interactions with customers while they browse.
