June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

7. I think it is not a good idea. You can use your cellphone for something important to help your work or when you
have some problem, you can do very fast.
I think it is not a good idea to forbid using personal cellphones at work. As long as it will not disturb the
work performance of the employee then, it should not be forbidden. However, the boss can employ rules
or policies to regulate the usage of cellphone during work hours.
Additionally, it is very important for employees to be informed in case there an important or emergency at
home or any family members. It will make them at ease if they know they are always updated with their
families. It’s a good thing for the mindset of the employees always feeling connected to their families.
In contrast, if using cellphone will be forbidden during work hours, then, there is a possibility that an
employee feel worried and wondering if there is a message from the family which could lead to
unproductive work performance because of lack of focus.
8. I think people who work with other people can achieve more because they can help each other. It can
make the work great. They can talk to each other and get information that can make their work better.
Whenever the work becomes so stressful, then, one can call a workmate and ask help or at least making
jokes with each other to feel happy even if he is tired.

13. The student don’t like the new system because they don’t like to work in group. He want do it all himself but
the geology teacher wanted the students to work in group. It can teach students how to help each other. It is
important to anyone.
The man did not like the new system of assessing the students in group while the geology professor
supported the new system. For the man, it is not good for some students because the grade or the mark does not
reflect the individual effort of the students. For example, in a group, there is some student who offered his
ideas but the smart student did not accept. There are also some members of the group who are not contributing
at all or barely contributing. So, it is better to abolish the group work system.
On the other hand, the geology faculty thought that groupwork will give an opportunity for the students to
share their ideas and develop leadership. Through, group work, the communication skills of the students will be
developed.

Listening text transcript:
It’s always been one of those big sci-fi questions – is there life on Mars, or rather, could Mars ever support life?
Well, it is generally assumed that in order to have life, you need water. Well, ever since the 1960s we’ve been
sending out probes to Mars to try to…ascertain if there is water on Mars, or if there ever has been, and in the
1990s, 1996 to be precise, the U.S. Mars Global Surveyor was launched. The surveyor remains in orbit around
Mars to this day and has some rather nifty equipment on board, including a high-resolution camera, a sensor
that can identify soil and rocks, and a laser that can take measurements and map the planet’s surface.
So what have we learnt from the Global Surveyor? Well, we’ve found out that yes, there was once water on
Mars, and in great quantities too. I’m talking oceans, seas, lakes…much like Earth today. They have deduced
this from the shapes of the mountains and valleys on Mars – they are the same shape as those formations on
Earth that we know were created by water. In fact, some analysts are suggesting that there is still water on
Mars to this day, but deep down, in holes 100 to 400 meters below the surface.
This idea created quite a stir, as you can imagine, and a number of scientists have tried to either prove…or
refute this theory, using other evidence available to us. Some Chinese scientists, for example, have been
studying a meteorite that was collected from Antarctica in 2001, but they’ve found no evidence of water there,
but that’s not to say there isn’t any water on Mars, as Mars and meteorites are separate entities entirely.
Another source of evidence we have is images from astronomical telescopes, but we can’t see much of the planet
from this angle – just the poles, and they are covered in ice caps – dry ice, not H20 – so that doesn’t help us one
way or the other.
25. Do you agree that one of the ways to solve overpopulation of the world is send them to
Mars ?
I don’t agree (disagree) to send people to Mars because of 3 reasons: First, there is no water, no plants and it is
very cold there. They can’t live there. Second, they don’t have rocket or plane to transport people to Mars. For example, If
they will make a rocket, it will cost a lot of money and harm the nature. Third, lot of people don’t want to leave their
homes. Their homes have a lot of memories with their families.

41. For me, it is a good idea to require each school from non-English native countries to teach English.
Speaking English nowadays gives a lot of benefits and you will get more opportunities in life when you are
proficient in the English Language may it be in studies, work or travel.
If you are still a student and you know how to speak English then. it will give you the opportunity to
pursue your studies in different countries.
Next, you can get more work opportunities when you know how to speak English especially when you
are dealing with clients from different countries. In fact, it will be your opportunity to represent your company
to other countries since you know how to communicate with people from different nationalities.
Lastly, when you travel even in non-English countries, your universal language is English otherwise you
cannot ask help or make friends if you don't speak a common language which is English .
47. I agree that pupils should have a job while they are studying at school. As long as it will not conflict to
their class schedule, then, it would be fine. When I was still a student, I also had a part time job and it
helped me a lot in terms of financial and my personality.
I no longer asked money from my parents because I was already earning while studying. Then, the
experience of working while studying made me stronger and develop my self confidence and self discipline.
I learned to manage my time as well.
That is the biggest reason why I can easily handle stress and pressure at work and in general now that I
am an adult. Lastly, having a part time job would be the best training ground of the pupils.
