2. •Over the course of its 2012-2013 fund-raising year,
Tipping Point Community raised $13.7 million to
fund poverty-fighting efforts in the San Francisco
Bay Area. With every cent raised going directly to
grantee organizations, Tipping Point offers a highly
effective means of supporting services related to job
training, housing, education, and other crucial social
service needs.
3. •The organization estimates that one-fifth of all Bay
Area residents live in poverty. And according to new
standards used in the California Poverty Measure,
which factors in relative cost of living in each region,
23 percent of individuals in San Francisco have
incomes that place them below the poverty level.
4. •Tipping Point works to break the cycle of poverty
through funding unrestricted grants to its partners. A
few statistics: Just $50 can give a front-line
nonprofit staff member the training necessary to
assist clients dealing with trauma. A $500 donation
can provide preschool or day care for a child of
struggling parents, and $1,000 can save a family
from eviction. And $5,000 can enable an adult to
complete a job training program and receive
placement services.
5. •From July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013, 1,149
donors and 147 partners worked with Tipping Point
to provide assistance to 88,331 people in the Bay
Area.
