Freelance designer
General duties include: Layout design,
working on three re-designs for What’s On TV
and it’s sister publication ‘TV Easy’, creative
photo-retouching/montage and advertorials.
I also covered for the Art Editor when absent:
delegating work to the design team;
briefing freelancers; approving and correcting
pages and proofs; attending meetings.
‘What’s On’ is the UK’s highest selling weekly
magazine at around £1.4million issues per week.
It is very bold, colourful and the pages are
packed to the edges. The main challenge is
to balance numerous competing page elements
whilst ensuring easy navigation and readability
to ensure the reader feels they are getting
bags of content whilst enjoying a smooth
ride through the magazine.

I have worked for the last 5 years on
a variety of projects: In-house sales
brochures for TV rights; adhoc illustration;
events materials for HSBC including
large format stage graphics, brochures,
badges, exhibition stand design,
powerpoint. Other financial clients such

Brochures, magazine, advertising and brand
refresh for Saunton Sands Hotel; Packaging
concepts for jam company; website, brochures

My first major design experience was working
in-house for this global retailer.
I worked on a variety of projects such as: in-store
graphics and merchandising; art direction
on photographic shoots; brochures and leaflets;
branding; promotional design; packaging.
I worked on various branding, advertising and
web design projects for this internet start-up.
Working within the UK branding team I liaised
with external design agencies and internal
marketing departments to ensure all company
communications adhere to the brand remit, from
typographical style to photographic art direction
and conceptual style. This covered areas such
as retail/interior design, online, direct mail, and a
major national re-branding strategy with industry
leading consultancy Interbrand. Although I wasn’t
producing design per se, this was still a relevant
and valuable experience working on the client
side of design and marketing.
