The previous chapter pointed out that some industries are characterized by increasing returns to adoption, meaning that the more a technology is adopted, the more valuable it becomes. In such industries, timing can be crucial—a technology that is adopted earlier than others may reap self-reinforcing advantages such as greater funds to invest in improving the technology, greater availability of complementary goods, and less customer uncertainty. On the other hand, the same factors that cause increasing returns to adoption may make very early technologies unattractive: If there are few users of the technology or availability of complementary goods is poor, the technology may fail to attract customers. A number of other first-mover advantages, and disadvantages, canshape how timing of entry is related to likelihood of success. Entrants are often divided into three categories: first movers (or pioneers), which are the first to sell in a new product or service category; early followers (also called early leaders), which are early to the market but not first; and late entrants, which enter the market when or after the product begins to penetrate the mass market.

We wanted to talk about what our thriller had that would attract a large audience within the age range of our target audience.
The recent emergence of new users, mobility, Internet of things, new form factors, multi input types and work environments presents a tipping point. A shift that force us to change the way we design productivity experiences.
Much like during Modernism, we are moving to design experiences that are Authentic to our present materials, the software we build and the way it is represented. These materials allow us to build applications that are free from old world metaphors.
Instead, they can be adaptive, contextually aware, focus on intent and function first, optimized to fit any output and accept any input.
Experiences that help users focus on their work, reduce the effort it is needed to achieve great outcomes, and offer relevant and meaningful choices. Experiences that are rooted in our present.
This presentation will discuss the nature of the changes, and how Modern Digital Experiences might shape our lives.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

In the 1960s, Stanley Milgram addressed a number of letters to a friend of his, a
stockbroker in Boston. Milgram then distributed these letters to a random selection
of people in Nebraska. He instructed the individuals to pass the letters to the
addressee by sending them to a person they knew on a first-name basis who seemed
in some way closer (socially, geographically, etc.) to the stockbroker. This person
would then do the same, until the letters reached their final destination.
