Tied

TIED The title of our film is tied however we are still working on this and would like to know your opinions on this. The film begins in a dark basement. We cut to our character, who is tied to a chair blindfolded. He begins to wake up and realises he has been kidnapped. After a lot of struggling and shouting with no reply, he begins to panic. But he hears someone cough. He repeatedly calls out to them and there is no response, but he now knows they’re there. As the film progresses we learn that the protagonist is a con artist and has cheated many people out of money. These people have now kidnapped him and intend to get revenge but that doesn’t stop him pleading for his freedom. In the end then tension is brought to a peak when a gun is put to his head and the unstable kidnapper debates whether or not to kill him. After many different voices arguing, the gun is put down and the kidnappers flee, leaving him alone in the middle of nowhere. Imagine Collateral meets Buried. Buried is a Ryan Reynolds film based entirely on the lead being stuck in a coffin. The film features no cut scenes, no flashbacks, and no change of setting. This is essentially what we want our film to achieve. Why? Because it’s challenging and emphasises tension and suspense to its max. Another feature is that we shall only show shots of the protagonist tied to the chair, the kidnappers are never seen in the whole film. The twist of the film is that you start off feeling empathy for the character but we learn half way through that he is a con artist and his kidnappers are normal people driven to extremes to get revenge. The audience’s loyalties change to the side of the kidnappers and we begin to feel maybe the protagonist deserves what’s coming to him.
