The 4th Asian Seminar on Informatics will be held from March 3-6, 2013 in Vietnam and organized by Kyoto University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Vietnam National University Hanoi. The seminar topics will include speech processing, image processing, natural language processing, signal processing, compressed sensing, security and data safe, and other informatics or applied mathematics topics. Participants are invited to submit 1-page abstracts in Latex or MS Word format by February 5, 2013 to hoinghitoantinbk@gmail.com. There are no fees for participants.

In the early 1990s after the fall of the Soviet Union, the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania each developed their own approach to teaching informatics in schools. Estonia moved towards integrating informatics as a cross-curricular theme and offering optional courses, while Lithuania maintained informatics as a compulsory standalone subject. Latvia adopted elements of both Estonia and Lithuania's models, requiring basic digital literacy courses and making an advanced informatics course optional for STEM-focused students. Over time, Estonia has continued refining its curriculum to emphasize programming, project-based learning, and preparing students for the digital workplace.

Interface Model Elicitation from Textual Scenarios
During the stage of system requirements gathering, model elicitation is aimed at identifying in textual scenarios model elements that are relevant for building a first version of models that will be further exploited in a model-driven engineering method. When multiple elements should be identified from multiple interrelated conceptual models, the complexity increases. Three method levels are successively examined to conduct model elicitation from textual scenarios for the purpose of conducting model-driven engineering of user interfaces: manual classi-fication, dictionary-based classification, and nearly natural language understanding based on semantic tagging and chunk extraction. A model elicitation tool implementing these three levels is described and exemplified on a real-world case study for designing user interfaces to workflow information systems. The model elicitation process discussed in the case study involves several models: user, task, domain, organization, resources, and job.
Multimedia Content Understanding: Bringing Context to Content
There is a digital revolution happening right before our eyes, the way we communicate is rapidly changing dues to rapid technological advances. Pencil and paper communication is drastically reducing and being replaced with newer communication medium ranging from emails to sms/mms and other instant messaging services. Information/news used to be broadcasted only through official and dedicated channels such as television, radio or newspapers. The technology available today allows every single one of us to be individual information broadcasters whether through text, image or video using our personal connected mobile device. In effect, the current trend shows that video will soon become the most important media on the Internet. While the amount of multimedia content continuously increases there is still progress to be done for automatically understanding multimedia documents in order to provide means to index, search and browse them more effectively. The objectives of this chapter are three-fold. First, we will motivate multimedia content modeling research in the current technological context. Secondly, a broad state of the art will provide the reader with a brief overview of the methodological trends of the field. Thirdly, a bird eye view of the various research themes I have supervised and/or conducted will be presented and will expose how contextual information has become an important additional source of information for multimedia content understanding.

Students at two universities were surveyed and their usage of recorded lectures was analyzed through log files to understand how students use recorded lectures and whether social tagging could improve navigation. Preliminary results found that while students reported recorded lectures were useful, log analysis showed much lower actual usage than reported. Social tagging was then tested as a way for students to navigate and share sections of recordings.

- 1. The 4th Asian Seminar on Informatics I. Introduction: The series Asian Seminar on Informatics at the first time was organized in Vietnam and Thailand from 24th to 30th August 2009. Continuing this series the second seminar took place in Taiwan (2011). The third seminar was organized in South Korea (2012). And the fourth seminar is coming back to Vietnam. The 4th Asian Seminar on Informatics will be held from 3 rd to 6th, March 2013 in Vietnam by two universities: Hanoi University of Science and Technology (from 3 rd to 4th, March) and Vietnam National University, Hanoi (from 5 th to 6th, March). II. Organizers: This seminar will be organized by: Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University; School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, Hanoi University of Science and Technology; International Research Institute MICA, Hanoi University of Science and Technology; University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. III.
