We believe that every voice
needs to be heard. For more
than 160 years, we have served
children and families to help them
find their voice. Our programs have
evolved to meet the demands of
societal and cultural changes.
We are here today because we are
helping youth and families in ways
that others are not able to do.
We are Cayuga Centers.
Edward Myers Hayes
President and CEO
(Jean was a resident in the early 1990’s, a time
of significant change in services for youth.)
Hello. My name is Jean. I was a
resident in your facility many years ago. I
wanted to say thank you for helping me
when I was younger. I came from a hard life,
and came home a better person. I am now
33, and I have a family of my own… To know
you are still helping kids in the community
is a great thing. I am grateful…

2. This is Cayuga Centers
Cayuga Centers serves children and families
throughout New York State, offering diverse
evidence-based, research informed, and
therapeutic programs to help youth reach
their full potential and to positively impact
the life of the family.
Cayuga Centers began as the Cayuga Asylum for
Destitute Children in 1852, a residential facility
for children who could not be dependent on
their own families. The name was changed to
Cayuga Home for Children in 1913.
In 1954, the mission changed to focus on serving
youth in the Family Court System, and the Board
moved to adopt the then brand-new cottage
model for residential treatment for youth.
The agency, now Cayuga Centers, continues
its Residential Treatment Center at the
organization’s headquarters in Auburn, NY.
Treatment focuses changed during the 1990’s,
and Cayuga Centers was at the forefront of
implementing treatment programs using
evidence-based models that provided
measurable and long-term successful outcomes.
Beyond Residential Treatment, Cayuga Centers
added Foster Care and Community-Based
Interventions such as Functional Family Therapy
and Multisystemic Therapy, and Services for
People with Developmental Disabilities.
Today, Cayuga Centers services extend across
NYS, from Monroe to Bronx Counties. The
agency has earned national recognition for
implementing evidence-based treatment
programs that successfully address youth
and family life issues.
