Reedy Thin vs Significant
Borders Cheat Sheet
March 4th, 2022
IMPORTANT
Disregard all thickest thin borders and thinnest
significant borders information and examples from
now on. This Cheat Sheet is the most recent update
regarding borders.
This new guidance might change some previous
border ratings. Do not be concerned about those, but
always apply this brand new information while rating.
We suggest you keep this open while working 
BORDERS
• Borders present around any edges of the media for the duration of the
video, indicating the media is not taken on a mobile device.
• Note: If both significant borders and thin borders are present throughout the duration of the video,
the border that was present for a longer duration should be selected. But if significant and thin
borders are equally present for the duration of the video, mark significant borders.
>5% of the screen = Significant <5% of the screen = Thin
Borders Checklist
 Borders should be there for the entire duration of the video.
 Videos must not be remixes* (not applicable for thin borders).
 If the border is white, it should not have text in it.
 Colored, crooked, blurred, and/or animated borders can still be
labeled as such if they comply with this checklist.
 Borders can be on any side of the screen and should be summed to
determine the screen percentage.
 >5% of the screen = Significant / <5% of the screen = Thin
*Note: Remix videos must have moving media on both sides (left/right
or top/bottom) to be considered remixes.

Extra Tips and Tricks
 Check one label at a time, then go for the next one.
 If the video background is dark and not sure there is a border in the video, we can set
the screen brightness to maximum, this makes it easier to see if there are borders in the
video or not.
 If there is no border visible in normal mode in the video, recheck in full-screen mode to
check if any borders blend along with the User-interface (SRT Link). (NOTE: We only
want to label borders that belong to the video and not to the user interface).
 If the reel contains a rapid slide show of images, play the video at 0.25x to check if
borders disappear at any point in the reel. (Borders need to persist for the entire
duration)
 Check if the Border is a part of the video background and not a true border, in this case
(SRT Link), the border is a part of the video background and wouldn’t qualify for any
borders label.
 Borders don’t need to stay at the same place to qualify as one, in this case (SRT Link),
the borders are moving on the sides but persist for the entire duration, therefore we will
still label them as “Significant Borders”.
