This document summarizes research on the seismic behavior of buildings with geometric irregularities. It reviews several studies that analyzed irregularly shaped buildings, such as L-shaped, T-shaped, and C-shaped, and found they performed differently than rectangular buildings in terms of strength and seismic response. The document also reviewed studies on different types of vertical and plan irregularities. Irregular buildings generally experienced greater displacement and drift than regular structures, with mass irregularities producing the largest base shear values. Shear walls can help reduce seismic forces in irregular buildings.
