T he Story Behind "There Shall Be Showers Of Blessing."
There Shall Be Showers of Blessing is the fruit of the pen of Daniel Webster Whittle (1840 - 1901) under the pseudonym of D W W.
It was rst published in 1183 in Gospel Hymns No 4 edited by Ira D. Sankey, James McGranahan and George C Stebbins. The tune was provided by
McGranahan who was Whittle's song leader in his evangelistic campaigns. We, however, do not know when it was composed but it was before 1883,
the date of its rst publication.
The rst line of the hymn is directly from Ezekiel 34 26, "And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing, and I will cause the
shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of"
Daniel Webster Whittle was born in 1840, Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. He is known by some as Major Daniel Whittle, a title awarded to him after
the American Civil War. He was deployed with Company B of the 72nd Illinois infantry during the war and was wounded at Vicksburg where he lost
an arm.
He was taken captive as a prisoner of war. While recovering from his wounds he wanted something to read and found the New Testament of the
bible.

2. While he was convicted by the bible he decided not to give his life to Christ yet.
All this was to change when a hospital orderly told him of a dying patient who wanted someone to pray with him.
Grudgingly Whittle accepted the invitation to pray with this patient. Below are his own words on what took place during this prayer session:
"I dropped on my knees and held the boy’s hand in mine. In a few broken words, I confessed my sins and asked Christ to forgive me. I believed right
there that He did forgive me. I then prayed earnestly for the boy. He became quiet and pressed my hand as I prayed and pleaded God’s promises.
When I arose from my knees, he was dead. A look of peace had come over his troubled face, and I cannot but believe that God who used him to bring
me to the Savior, used me to lead him to trust Christ’s precious blood and nd pardon. I hope to meet him in heaven".
He was a close acquaintance of the famous evangelist, Dwight Moody who encouraged him to go into evangelism.

There Shall Be Showers Of Blessing Lyrics
There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.
Refrain:
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy-drops round us are falling,
But for the showers, we plead.
There shall be showers of blessing,
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,

Sound of abundance of rain.
There shall be showers of blessing;
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing,
Come, and now honor Thy Word.
There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!
There shall be showers of blessing,
If we but trust and obey;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
If we let God have His way.

Master The Tempest Is Raging Hymn Story and Lyrics
Master The Tempest Is Raging History The words of this hymn, Master The Tempest Is Raging, were written by Mary Ann Baker and they
were set to music by Dr. H R Palmer in 1874. The song was published in Dr. Palmer's Songs of Love For The Bible School. The inspiration for
this song is the story of Jesus and the disciples crossing the Sea of Galilee when they encountered a big storm and their boat was at risk of
capsizing. As the Bible reports Jesus was fast asleep while his disciples were ghting the storm and fearing for their lives. They soon realized…
