Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NEN) of the gastro-entero-pancreatic tract (GEP) are a group in themselves very heterogeneous of tumors that are different for the site of localization in the digestive tract (foregut, midgut and hindgut), both in relation to the pathological aspects, functional activity and nosographic classification. Materials and methods: In the period from January 2001 to July 2006 (III Clinical Surgery unit) and from January 2006 to October 2013 (Surgery of the Digestive Tract Unit), UOCS of the University Hospital of Catania has come to our observation 4 patients in the first period and six in the second period. Cases of NEN-GEP we observed allow to highlight how there are elements of clinical differences that make it difficult framing them.

Non-operative management risks missing timely diagnosis and treatment of appendiceal cancers.

Abstract—In Italy the hydatid disease is more prevalent and new cases are highlighted more frequently in Sicily, Sardinia, (Italy). Aim of this study is to put the indication in search of iaditea nature in both spleen swelling and muscle tendon.
Material and Method Patients observed during the period 2007-2009 at the Surgical Clinic III and Digestive Surgery, Policlinico G Rodolico were explored for Hydatid cyste at various sites. Diagnosis of cysts ecchinococcus occurred primarily for various four reasons either for compression of bodies involved or for eosinophilia or for instrumental investigation or for anaphylactic reaction to rupture of cysts. Biological diagnosis is based on serology rather than isolation of the parasite (indirect diagnosis);
Results Patients attended during the period 2007-2009 Hydatid cyst was found in 0.5% of all cases in liver along with 4 in the lung, 3 in splenic, 2 in the mammary and 2 in the chest wall No 2. The Surgical treatment with the complete removal of the cyst with a satisfactory postoperative course in the absence of cases of relapse of the disease and by following the therapeutic act, the assumption of mebendazole 50mg / kg / day for 3 weeks at a dose of 400mg for 4 months
Conclusions There is a need to define diagnostic methods with high specificity and sensitivity, which can provide a valid diagnostic aid for the cases clinically difficult to diagnose. And the final diagnosis must then also be based on the development of immunological methods that allow the determination of specific antibodies in the serum and their titration and / or the circulating antigen determination.

D2 gastrectomy with a minimal lymph node dissection of 15 nodes provides curative treatment for gastric adenocarcinoma. Laparoscopic gastrectomy can provide equivalent resection and lymphadenectomy to open surgery, with comparable long-term oncologic outcomes and no increase in recurrence. While laparoscopic techniques continue to be refined, D2 gastrectomy remains the standard treatment with minimally invasive approaches serving as a safe alternative to open surgery. More aggressive multimodal approaches may benefit select patients.

When I was asked to give a companion lecture in support of ‘The Philosophy of Science’ (https://shorturl.at/4pUXz) I decided not to walk through the detail of the many methodologies in order of use. Instead, I chose to employ a long standing, and ongoing, scientific development as an exemplar. And so, I chose the ever evolving story of Thermodynamics as a scientific investigation at its best.
Conducted over a period of >200 years, Thermodynamics R&D, and application, benefitted from the highest levels of professionalism, collaboration, and technical thoroughness. New layers of application, methodology, and practice were made possible by the progressive advance of technology. In turn, this has seen measurement and modelling accuracy continually improved at a micro and macro level.
Perhaps most importantly, Thermodynamics rapidly became a primary tool in the advance of applied science/engineering/technology, spanning micro-tech, to aerospace and cosmology. I can think of no better a story to illustrate the breadth of scientific methodologies and applications at their best.

Abstract Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NEN) of the gastro-entero-pancreatic tract (GEP) are a group in themselves very heterogeneous of tumors that are different for the site of localization in the digestive tract (foregut, midgut and hindgut), both in relation to the pathological aspects, functional activity and nosographic classification. Materials and methods: In the period from January 2001 to July 2006 (III Clinical Surgery unit) and from January 2006 to October 2013 (Surgery of the Digestive Tract Unit), UOCS of the University Hospital of Catania has come to our observation 4 patients in the first period and six in the second period. Cases of NEN-GEP we observed allow to highlight how there are elements of clinical differences that make it difficult framing them.
