This document is a summary of a pastor's sermon on John 11:17-37 about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. It discusses how Jesus comforted Martha and Mary in their grief, and affirmed that He is the resurrection and life. It notes Jesus wept at the tomb because He knew that Lazarus' death was only temporary, as Jesus would soon defeat death through His own resurrection. The pastor emphasizes that we should have true faith that Jesus has power over death, and that our lack of belief makes Jesus weep today.

The document discusses biblical principles of church leadership. It argues that in the church, Christ alone should be recognized as the singular leader, not any individual pastor. Church leadership should operate as a team of elders (pastors) discerning the will of God together through prayer, study, and seeking unity in what the Holy Spirit says to the church. Important decisions are made by consensus of the pastoral team, not by any single individual. This model of shared leadership helps prevent abuse of power and ensures mutual accountability.
Jesus asks his disciples who people say he is and who they say he is. When Peter responds that Jesus is the Messiah, Jesus affirms this but tells them to tell no one. C.S. Lewis argues that Jesus could not have merely been a great moral teacher, but must have been who he claimed to be - the Son of God. Faith is a gift from God that allows us to believe in him, so we should use our reason to understand our faith more deeply.
Christian Community: The Foundation of Discipleship (Building A Better Discip...Jonathan Sullivan
This document summarizes Jonathan F. Sullivan's presentation on Christian community. It discusses how the Holy Trinity exemplifies community as three persons in one God, united in perfect love. It provides quotes on how all people form one community and how the Christian community supports catechumens. It also addresses the domestic church, with families modeling Christ's union with the Church and educating children. The document then discusses parishes as places where disciples come together to worship, grow, and serve others. It concludes by addressing affirmative orthodoxy and presenting the Christian faith in a positive light.
Jesus asks his disciples who people say he is and who they say he is. They respond that some say he is John the Baptist, Elijah, or one of the prophets. But when Jesus asks who they say he is, no answer is given in the text.
C.S. Lewis argues that Jesus cannot merely be considered a great moral teacher, as that contradicts his own claims. Jesus either had to be the Son of God, a lunatic, or something worse. One must choose to accept him as Lord and God or reject him.
The text discusses key aspects of early Christianity such as its Jewish roots, the development of the Gospels, criteria used for determining the New Testament canon
This document discusses spiritual decline and its causes. It identifies three stages of spiritual decline: (1) gratification of fleshly desires, (2) allurements of worldly things, and (3) obsession with status and importance. Pursuing these things leads to a lack of spiritual growth through studying scripture, prayer, fellowship and other disciplines. Spiritual decline is a lack of spiritual discipline and discipleship that results in self-aggrandizement and greed over godliness. Regular spiritual exercise through practices like prayer, scripture study and good works can help avoid decline and foster growth.
This document contains a prayer praising God as the perfect light of revelation, asking God to shine through believers so they can enlighten others with compassion. It also contains excerpts from Psalm 111 and Mark 1 about God's great works and righteousness enduring forever, Jesus teaching with authority in the synagogue and casting out an unclean spirit. The document reflects on where to find hope in believing God is like Jesus and has always been gracious and merciful, not seeking to destroy. It closes with a benediction praying for God's love and healing to draw people together.

This document outlines a course on biblical spiritual leadership. It examines Jesus Christ as the ultimate example of a spiritual leader, discussing how he was self-aware, sought God's will, did not seek recognition, cared for people's physical and spiritual needs, and developed his disciples. The document also looks at what it means to follow Christ as a spiritual leader, including having a personal relationship with him, walking in his ways, and keeping one's eyes on him. Overall, the document uses examples from the Bible to establish Jesus as the model for spiritual leadership and explores what is required of Christian leaders according to Scripture.
This document contains a sermon on Luke 24 and Jesus as the resurrected one. It discusses how Jesus is at once present yet elusive, direct yet mysterious, and healed yet wounded. It notes how resurrection life is preceded by brokenness and death. The resurrected one both shows us that brokenness and death lead to new life and raises questions about what resurrection life will truly look like and what we should do in light of it.
This document discusses what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. It emphasizes that disciples show unconditional love for God and others through selfless love and sacrifice. Disciples are dedicated to fulfilling the Great Commission by making other disciples, not just believers. A disciple seeks to do what Jesus would do in every situation and asks God through prayer and fasting to show them how. The document then provides practical guidance on how to make disciples, including praying and fasting for them, believing in their potential, and doing what Jesus did by withdrawing to pray, preach the gospel, and perform miracles.
This document summarizes a discussion on faith development from adolescence to adulthood. It explores how adolescents often have "superego" images of God as a strict parent-like figure who demands obedience to rules and orthodox beliefs. This superego God promises security but limits freedom and autonomy. The discussion uses the story of Jesus healing a crippled woman on the Sabbath to show how Jesus challenged the superego God by prioritizing compassion over rigid rules. The goal is to help people transition from adolescent to adult faith with more mature, authentic images of God.
This document discusses discipleship, mission, and evangelization. It defines discipleship as having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that leads one to radically follow Him by loving as He loved and serving the poor and disenfranchished. Mission is defined as bringing the Gospel to all people and cultures through witness and proclamation. Evangelization is bringing the Good News of Jesus to every situation seeking conversion through proclaiming Christ and living witness of life. The document encourages all Christians to find opportunities everyday to share their stories of faith.
This document summarizes Saul's conversion experience on the road to Damascus as described in Acts 9. It notes that Saul immediately began preaching that Jesus is the Son of God in Damascus synagogues, amazing people who knew of his previous efforts to harm Christians. Though the Jews plotted to kill Saul, he was able to escape Damascus with the help of his disciples. When Saul came to Jerusalem, the disciples were initially afraid of him but Barnabas vouched for Saul's conversion experience. Saul then preached boldly in Jerusalem until the Hellenists also sought to kill him, after which he was taken to Caesarea and sent to Tarsus for his safety. The early church subsequently experienced peace and growth throughout
We are the Christ of today, chosen by the Lord Jesus. To continue the work He has started in this world. Let us bring Christ to the people by evangelizing them. Sharing of our Gospel reflection is one way of telling the people about the goodness of God that we experience in our day to day living.
The document discusses growing as a disciple and better discipling prisoners through spiritual disciplines like prayer, worship, celebration of life, and cheerful service. It also talks about developing the next generation of instructors at the Correctional Bible Institute and exploring different levels of faith through a continuum from exploring Christ to being Christ-centered. Finally, it mentions growing Christ-followers through disciple and leader formation to develop Christ-like character and the ability to influence others.
World Spirituality Mr. Joshua's IB ValuesJoshua-stm
This document discusses the concept of world spirituality. It defines world spirituality as being dedicated to God, religion, or spiritual things that enrich the heart and mind to respect and serve all of God's creatures. It provides quotes from spiritual leaders like the Dalai Lama, Mother Theresa, and St. Augustine about spirituality. The document also discusses Jesus as a spiritual model, noting his teachings to love God and serve others. Students are then asked to think of biblical examples that demonstrate spiritual traits from Jesus' life.
We are the Christ of today, chosen by the Lord Jesus. To continue the work He has started in the world. Let us bring Jesus to the people by evangelizing them. Gospel reflection is one way of telling the people about the reality of God.
This document provides guidance on praying the Scriptures for personal change and transformation. It recommends the ancient practice of Lectio Divina, involving reading, meditating on, praying about, and contemplating a Scripture passage. An example is provided applying this to 1 Peter 1:15-16. The document stresses making a plan to incorporate daily prayer practices like Mass, Divine Office, and daily Scripture reading. The goal is drawing near to God through Scripture to experience interior change and become more holy.
Conversion is a gift from God but also requires lifelong spiritual growth and discipline. Simply receiving salvation does not guarantee growth - one must develop regular spiritual habits like reading the Bible, prayer, and sharing one's faith just as Jesus did. Proper spiritual development involves progressing from faith to virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and love. Maintaining simple, regular habits is key to being rooted and built up in one's faith.
This document discusses the importance of disciple making based on Jesus' command to his disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. It provides definitions of what it means to be a disciple from various Christian leaders and outlines five basic truths of what a disciple looks like: 1) Disciples live by the words of Jesus. 2) Disciples are committed totally to Jesus. 3) Disciples produce fruit. The document emphasizes that discipleship requires total commitment and obedience to Jesus and will result in lives shaped by his will and bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

The document discusses characterizing and redefining aspects of the church to be more welcoming, inclusive, and guided by the Holy Spirit. It argues the church should be non-judgmental, transparent, current with the times, and foster quick friendships. The movement of the Holy Spirit is described as the vitality marker, with examples from Acts and John's Gospel of being guided and imparted the Spirit. Breathing, not heart beat, was seen as the mark of a living soul in ancient times. The cross and empty tomb were not the end; Jesus imparts the divine Spirit. Vitality is shown through holy character, witness, and peaceful, passionate presence. The Spirit is invited through confession, prayer, faith,
The document summarizes passages from Luke 2:41-52 describing Jesus at age 12 going with his parents to Jerusalem for Passover. When returning, Jesus stayed behind in the temple discussing scripture with religious teachers while his parents searched for him. After three days they found him in the temple and did not understand his response about being in his "Father's house." Jesus then returned with his parents to Nazareth and was obedient to them, increasing in wisdom as he grew.
Every year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover Feast. When Jesus was twelve, they went to the feast but on the way home Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without their knowledge. After searching for him for three days, they found him in the temple courts listening to and questioning the teachers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished but Jesus said he had to be about his Father's business. Then he returned home with them and was obedient, growing in wisdom and favor with God and men.
This passage from Luke provides a glimpse into Jesus' life as a boy and highlights three qualities that are worth emulating. 1) Jesus was captivated by the things of God to the point that He stayed in the temple after His parents left for home. 2) Jesus was compelled to do the work of God, teaching and answering questions from religious scholars in the temple. 3) Jesus committed to live in obedience to His earthly parents, while also being committed to fulfilling His calling from God. These qualities of being captivated by God, compelled to serve God, and committed to living for God can guide believers today.

2. When Jesus' parents found him after searching for three days, he explained that he must be focused on his "Father's business", indicating his deep commitment to God's purposes even at a young age.
3. Though Jesus willingly returned home with his parents and lived a normal life, the story shows his early devotion to understanding and spreading God's word, foreshadowing his role as the divine son of God and savior of humanity.

Jesus travels to Galilee where the Galileans welcome him for the miracles he performed. In Cana, an official's son becomes ill and the official hears that Jesus has returned from Judea. He asks Jesus to heal his son who is near death. Jesus challenges the official's faith but tells him his son will live. The official believes Jesus' word and his son recovers at the appointed time, causing the official and his whole household to believe. This is Jesus' second sign upon returning from Judea, as he fulfills his mission and makes himself known.
This prayer asks God to help us see Christ's presence in the vulnerable and marginalized, and to become beacons of justice for those in need as Christ was. It references the story of Jesus at age 12 in the temple, astonishing teachers with his wisdom. Though his parents did not understand, Jesus was focused on his Father's work of bringing justice. The prayer asks God to open our eyes to continue Christ's mission.
This document describes several key locations from Jesus' life and provides lessons about community. It outlines sites connected to Jesus' birth in Bethlehem, childhood in Nazareth, baptism by John the Baptist in the Jordan River, and time in Galilee towns like Sepphoris. The document concludes by highlighting three lessons: that Jesus was raised in an extended family, submitted to parents and teachers, and that developing character requires time within community relationships rather than in isolation.

History has clearly shown Christians that our teenagers today are quite immature. But, it is the Bible - especially the life of Christ at the age of twelve - that gives parents a biblical perspective and pattern that inherently should cause us to expect more from our teens. [NOTE: and expect-ing more from parents]
The document describes Jesus's birth and early life as recounted in the gospels of Luke and Matthew. It discusses his conception by the Holy Spirit, birth in Bethlehem, presentation at the temple where Simeon and Anna recognize him as the Messiah, and childhood spent in Nazareth. When Jesus is 12 years old, he lingers in the temple discussing scripture with religious teachers, astonishing them with his wisdom. Mary and Joseph are anxious to find him after assuming he was with their caravan, but Jesus says he must be about his "Father's business," revealing his identity as the Son of God.

This document discusses the origins and meanings of Easter from different perspectives. It notes that Easter celebrations have roots in pagan spring equinox festivals, Jewish Passover traditions, and later Christian traditions focused on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. From a Spiritist view, Easter is not about rituals or dogmas, but can be a time for reflection on Jesus' teachings of morality when he reincarnated on Earth. Spiritism sees Easter as a spiritual transformation towards developing perfection by leaving behind vices and selfishness.
I've never seen Jesus with my own eyes. I've never touched him with my own hands. We can only know Jesus through the eyes of those that did see him. I see people now with my own eyes, but do I see them the way Jesus sees them. I want to see others through the eyes of Jesus.
Jesus had a unique identity as the son of God. He was born to Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem according to God's plan. Jesus had a genealogy that traced his lineage back to important figures in the Old Testament like David, Noah, and Abraham, showing he came from their family. As a boy, Jesus obeyed his parents and grew up in their family in Nazareth. He increased in wisdom and in favor with God and people as he matured into a man. Each child also has a unique identity given by God and should be allowed to grow up in a healthy way.
Spiritual formation for Jews involves three key stages:
1) Formation begins in the home through the father's teachings and establishing a Godly family dynamic.
2) It continues through involvement and learning at the synagogue from a young age, culminating in the Bar Mitzvah ceremony at age 13.
3) Ongoing spiritual growth is seen as a lifelong process of continual learning and improvement through regular synagogue worship and study of the Torah. Spiritual growth for Jews is understood as an active and constant process of becoming better aligned with God, rather than a passive state.
Two disciples were walking to Emmaus after Jesus' crucifixion, discussing the events with sadness. Jesus appeared and walked with them, but they did not recognize him. He questioned them and called them foolish for not believing what the prophets foretold. Jesus then explained how the Messiah was prophesied to suffer and enter glory. When he broke bread with them, they recognized Jesus, but then he disappeared. They then realized Jesus had opened their understanding of the scriptures.

To truly calculate the cost, you must consider both the cost of action and the cost of inaction not only for the near term but in the long term. Jesus calls us to a decision. Choose wisely.
Jesus warns his disciples about hypocrisy among religious leaders and tells them not to fear those who can kill the body. He instructs them not to fear people as much as God, who has authority over both body and soul. Jesus promises to acknowledge before God those who acknowledge him before men, but those who deny him will be denied. The Holy Spirit will give disciples words to say when they are brought before leaders to defend their faith.
Jesus responds to those accusing him of casting out demons by Beelzebul by pointing out the logical flaws in their argument. He lays out that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand, and that if Satan is divided and casting people out of himself, his kingdom would collapse. Jesus further explains that if his exorcisms are by the power of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon them. He tells the crowds that whoever is not with him is against him. Jesus rebukes the generation seeking signs, saying the only sign given will be the sign of Jonah. He emphasizes the importance of hearing and keeping God's word for true blessing.
Jesus teaches his disciples about prayer in response to their request. He gives them a model prayer focusing on hallowing God's name, desiring his kingdom to come, and acknowledging dependence on him for daily provision and forgiveness. Jesus encourages prayer by reminding them of God's generosity like a father who provides for his children, and says God will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask. He emphasizes making prayer a priority and having the right priorities in prayer, such as honoring God and trusting in his provision.
Martha welcomed Jesus into her home but became distracted serving Him, while her sister Mary sat at His feet listening to His teaching. Martha complained to Jesus that Mary wasn't helping her, but Jesus said Mary chose the better part by spending time with Him rather than being distracted by many tasks. The passage emphasizes the importance of sitting at Jesus' feet to listen to Him over being busy doing things for Him without truly focusing on Him.
The seventy-two disciples returned from their mission joyfully saying that even demons were subject to them in Jesus' name. Jesus tells them that he saw Satan fall from heaven and that they have been given authority over all the power of the enemy. He says to rejoice not that spirits are subject to them, but that their names are written in heaven. Jesus rejoices that God has revealed these things to the disciples and not the wise and understanding. All things have been handed over to Jesus by God and no one knows the Son except the Father. Jesus tells the disciples that many prophets and kings desired to see and hear what they have seen and heard.
Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism: the space religions espousing the doctrine...Cometan
This lecture created by Brandon Taylorian (aka Cometan) specially for the CESNUR Conference held Bordeaux in June 2024 provides a brief introduction to the legacy of religious and philosophical thought that Astronism emerges from, namely the discourse on transcension started assuredly by the Cosmists in Russia in the mid-to-late nineteenth century and then carried on and developed by Mordecai Nessyahu in Cosmodeism in the twentieth century. Cometan also then provides some detail on his story in founding Astronism in the early twenty-first century from 2013 along with details on the central Astronist doctrine of transcension. Finally, the lecture concludes with some contributions made by space religions and space philosophy and their influences on various cultural facets in art, literature and film.

Introduction
Mantra Yoga is an exact science. "Mananat trayate iti mantrah- by the Manana (constant thinking or recollection) of which one is protected or is released from the round of births and deaths, is Mantra." That is called Mantra by the meditation (Manana) on which the Jiva or the individual soul attains freedom from sin, enjoyment in heaven and final liberation, and by the aid of which it attains in full the fourfold fruit (Chaturvarga), i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. A Mantra is so called because it is achieved by the mental process.
The Book of Revelation, filled with symbolic and apocalyptic imagery, presents one of its most striking visions in Revelation 9:3-12—the locust army. Understanding the significance of this locust army provides insight into the broader themes of divine judgment, protection, and the ultimate triumph of God’s will as depicted in Revelation.
Lição 12: João 15 a 17 – O Espírito Santo e a Oração Sacerdotal | 2° Trimestr...OmarBarrezueta1
The pervasiveness of Lying in today's World.pptxniwres
In our interconnected world, lies weave through the fabric of society like hidden threads. We encounter them in politics, media, personal relationships, and even within ourselves. The prevalence of deception raises profound questions about truth, trust, and the human condition.

Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.
