The countries of the United Kingdom are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The capital of England is London. It´s an enormous city, with seven million people! The capital of Scotland is Edimburgh. The capital of Wales is Cardiff. The capital of Northen Ireland is Belfast. Other interesting cities to visit are  Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool in  England, and Glasgow in Scotland. The national flag of the United Kingdom is the  Union Jack. It’s red,white and blue. The flags of  Scotland, England and Northern Ireland make the Union Jack.  England is famous for good football teams, bad food,  and terrible weather. THE UNITED KINGDOM
The Union Flag, popularly known as the * Union Jack , is the national flag of the  United Kingdom . It is the British flag.  It is called the Union Flag because it symbolises the administrative union of the countries of the United Kingdom. It is made up of the individual Flags of three of the Kingdom's countries all united under one Sovereign - the countries of  'England , of  'Scotland'  and of 'Northern Ireland' (since 1921 only Northern Ireland has been part of the United Kingdom). As Wales was not a Kingdom but a Principality it could not be included on the flag. Where is England? England is in north-west Europe and is in the southern part of Great Britain. It is an island country ( See map ) and also part of the United Kingdom (UK) . England is the largest country in Great Britain and the UK. It is sometimes, wrongly, used in reference to the whole United Kingdom, the entire island of Great Britain, or indeed the British Isles. This is not only incorrect but can cause offence to people from other parts of the UK. ( Nationality of the British people). Wales ( Cymru  in Welsh) is a mountainous country on the western side of  Great Britain  , and is bordered by England to the east, the Bristol Channel to the south, St George's Channel in the west, and the Irish Sea to the north. Her birthday is officially celebrated in Britain on the 3rd Saturday of June each year.  Queen Elizabeth Il is a 'constitutional monarch'. This means that although she is officially the head of the state, the country is actually run by the  government , led by the Prime Minister. The Queen lives at  Buckingham Palace .
