2. INTRODUCTION
Large intestine extends from the
ileocecal junction to the anus.
Parts of large intestine are Cecum ,
Ascending colon, Transverse colon ,
Descending colon and the Rectum.
3. THE TRANSVERSE COLON:
THESTRUCTURE:
This part of the large intestine, actually hang down
as a loop. It’s about 45cm long and it’s the largest
and most mobile part of the large intestine. It crosses
the Abdomen from the Right Colic Flexure to the
Left Colic Flexure. The Transverse colon has a
Mesentery, the Transverse Mesocolon; it is a
double layered fold of peritoneum that suspends the
transverse colon from the posterior abdominal wall.
4. THE TRANSVERSE COLON:
THELOCATION:
The Transverse Colon is the continuation of the
Right Dorsal Colon. The transverse colon is
short and passes from right to left, Cranial to
the Cranial Mesenteric Artery. To the left of
the root of the mesentery, the transverse colon
continues as the descending colon, known as the
small colon. It begins at the level of 17th or 18th
thoracic vertebra.
5. CONCLUSION
In summary, The Transverse
Colon is the portion of the large
intestine that crosses the upper
Abdomen from Right to Left. It’s
essentially a large puckered tube
with bulges, known as haustra.
The Transverse Colon connects
the Ascending colon to the
Descending colon.
