1) The Quran and hadith prohibit riba (usury), describing those who engage in it as resembling those beaten by Satan into insanity and as being cursed to dwell in Hellfire. 2) Specific prohibitions mentioned include gold for silver except hand to hand in equal amounts, wheat for wheat except hand to hand in equal amounts, dates for dates except hand to hand in equal amounts, and barley for barley except hand to hand in equal amounts. 3) Hadith also describe a punishment in the afterlife of those who engage in riba, with a man in a river of blood being unable to escape as another continuously throws stones in his mouth.

2. FROM QURAN
Al-Baqarah , 275
Those who eat Riba (usury) will not stand (on the Day
of Resurection) except like standing of a person
beaten by Shaitan (Satan) leading him to insanity. This
is beause they say : “Trading is only like Riba (usury),
whereas Allah has permitted trading and forbidden
Riba (usury). So whosoever receives an admonition
from his Lord and stops eating Riba (usury) shall not
be punished for the past; his case is for Allah (to
judge); but whoever returns [(to Riba (usury)], such as
the dwellers of the Fire – they will abide therein.

3. Ar-Ruum, 39
And something Riba (additional) you
provided so that he gets on the property
of men, not riba add on the side of God.
And what you provided in the form of
tithes, which ye meant to achieve
means God, then (to do so) that those
who fold the duplicate (a reward).

4. FROM HADITH
 Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3 No. 299 : Narrated ‘Aun
bin Abu Juhaifah R.A. :
My f at her bought a sl ave who pract i sed t he
prof essi on of cuppi ng, (My f at her broke t he
servant s i nst rument s of cuppi ng). I asked my
f at her why he had done so. He repl i ed, "The
Prophet f orbade t he accept ance of t he pri ce
of a dog or bl ood, and al so f orbade t he
prof essi on of t at ooi ng, or get t i ng t at ooed
and recei vi ng or gi vi ng Ri ba (Usury), and
cursed t he pi ct ure makers."

5.  Sahih Bukhari, 2468, Narrated Samura bin
Jundab R.A. :
He speaks of in a dream related to the Prophet (SAW)
that there is a river of blood and a man was in it, and
another man was standing at its bank with stones in
front of him,facing the man standing in the river.
Whenever the man in the river wanted to come out ,
the other one threw a stone in his mouth and caused
him to retreat back into his original position.The
Prophet was told that these people in this river of
blood were people who dealt in Riba (usury).

6.  Narrated Az-Zuhri from Malik bin Aus :
That the latter said, "Who has change?" Talha
said, "I (will have change) when our store-
keeper comes from the forest." Narrated 'Umar
bin Al-Khattab: Allah's Apostle said, "The
bartering of gold for silver is riba, (usury),
except if it is from hand to hand and equal in
amount, and wheat grain for wheat grain is
usury except if it is form hand to hand and
equal in amount, and dates for dates is usury
except if it is from hand to hand and equal in
amount, and barley for barley is usury except if
it is from hand to hand and equal in amount."
