Software Architect at LifeOmic
It's possible to have rapid feature delivery and happy developers without sacrificing high security and compliance. At LifeOmic, we've built an automated change management system that allows production deployments without slow human approval. We maintain HIPAA and HITRUST compliance while still allowing continuous delivery. I'll show how to collect data from BitBucket, Jenkins, and security scan tools to ensure that the approved processes have been followed.
You'll hear how fast production approval incentivizes developers to follow good practices, and become advocates for following the process instead of pushing against it. Automating process checks as a gate to deployments is a great framework for promoting the behavior you want in your organization. Don't give up on rapid feature delivery just because you work in a regulated industry.
Digital businesses need to establish trust between customers, suppliers, and services at massive scale, which at the core is about trust in its people, data, and systems. CIO’s running hybrid IT inclusive of the mainframe platform should consider best practices that are based on customer adoption patterns for establishing a system of digital trust leveraging blockchain and machine learning algorithms.

Outage analysis: BGP Routing Errors Ripple Across the InternetThousandEyes
How did Cloudflare, AWS, Discord and a metals manufacturer all end up in the same Internet pile-up? For nearly two hours on June 24, 2019, a BGP routing error from an ISP in Pennsylvania rippled outward across the global Internet, creating havoc and causing Cloudflare, AWS and related services like Discord and Nintendo Life to become unavailable to many users. The worst part is that it was entirely preventable.

Continuous Delivery for cloud - scenarios and scopeSanjeev Sharma
Cloud is both a catalyst and an enabler for DevOps. Having the flexibility and the services and capabilities provided by the Cloud lowers the barrier to adoption for organization looking to adopt DevOps. Hence, allowing them to achieve the business goals of Speed, Business Agility and Innovation.
This webinar will explore the impact of DevOps on using the Cloud as a Platform as a Service and vice versa. It will explore the different use cases of DevOps that are enabled or enhanced by the Cloud platform, and the different 'scopes' of adoption by organizations adopting Cloud and DevOps in an iterative manner.
You got DevOpsed! Your sysadmin team got renamed as the DevOps team. Developers got prod access. Code deploys to prod happen multiple times a day now. In the eyes of the business, things are great. Yet, the security team continues to be left out and really nothing seems to be better. In fact it feels worse.
Time to learn how to hack some devops for great good.
This talk will equip you with advice and tools to join in on the devops. You will also leave with a sample continuous delivery pipeline that is armed to dangerous and ready to identify security issues in a typical web application stack.

1) The document discusses how monitoring and observability have lagged behind other DevOps practices like application and infrastructure delivery that have adopted an "everything as code" approach.
2) It argues that monitoring as code needs to encompass the entire observability lifecycle, from automated data collection to alerting, diagnosis, and even automated remediation.
3) Integrating monitoring fully into CI/CD pipelines through a monitoring as code approach ensures monitoring is version controlled and changes are tested and deployed alongside applications through the same unified process.
Computational Patterns of the Cloud - QCon NYC 2014Ines Sombra
This document summarizes a presentation about computational patterns in the cloud. It discusses four key patterns: reclaimable resources, where cloud applications provision resources on demand and release them when not needed; harvesting services, where applications consume external services via APIs rather than maintaining standalone components; distributed systems, where resources and services come together to form distributed systems as the new norm; and continuous everything, where the cloud enables continuous delivery, deployment, and testing practices. The document provides examples and stories about implementing these patterns and discusses challenges organizations may face in adopting cloud-native approaches.

Data-Driven DevOps: Mining Machine Data for 'Metrics that Matter' in a DevOps...Splunk
IT organizations are increasingly using machine data - including in DevOps practices - to get away from 'vanity metrics' and instead to generate 'metrics that matter'. These metrics provide visibility into the delivery of new application code and the business value of DevOps, to both IT and business stakeholders.
Machine data provides DevOps teams and others - including QA, secops, CxOs and LOB leaders - with meaningful and actionable metrics. This allows stakeholders to monitor, measure, and continuously improve the velocity and quality of code throughout the software lifecycle, from dev/test to customer-facing outcomes and business impact.
In this session Andi Mann, chief technology advocate at Splunk, will share core methodologies, interesting case studies, key success factors and 'gotcha' moments from real-world experience with mining machine data to produce 'metrics that matter' in a DevOps context.
The Reality of Managing Microservices in Your CD PipelineDevOps.com
As we shift from monolithic software development practices to microservices, our well-designed CD pipeline will need to change. Microservices are small functions, deployed independently and linked via APIs at run-time. While these differences seem minor, they actually have a large impact on your overall CD structure. Think hundreds of workflows, small of any builds and the loss of a monolithic 'application.'

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)Julian Hyde
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.
