The respiratory system is responsible for breathing in oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide. It starts at the nose and includes the lungs, diaphragm, larynx, bronchi, trachea, and bronchioles. The alveoli in the lungs are tiny air sacks where oxygen passes into the blood and carbon dioxide leaves the blood. The diaphragm and lungs work together to inhale and exhale air which carries oxygen throughout the body.
