Become part owner in one of Sweden’s most exciting media projects. From last year’s high-profile crowdfunding campaign, we raised 1.3 million SEK. In 2015 we also managed to raise an additional 1.2 million, proving there’s a strong interest in quality journalism, which people are willing to pay for. The revenue for the first year landed at 60 percent higher than anticipated.
Together with 3,027 people, we have started a movement with the goal of casting light on the blank spots of our world while increasing awareness of journalism as a crucial cornerstone in a democratic society.

Citizen Journalism is basically defined as collecting, disseminating and analyzing news as well as information by mainly non-professionals among the public where specifically there is use of internet in communicating with the public. This information which is provided by private individuals can take many forms varying from a podcast editorial to a report about council meeting. One very important feature of the citizen journalism is that it is found usually found online and moreover, the emergence and quick availability of internet with its web-related innovations has made the concept of citizen journalism possible. In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

Welcome to the new Mizzima Weekly !
Mizzima Media Group is pleased to announce the relaunch of Mizzima Weekly. Mizzima is dedicated to helping our readers and viewers keep up to date on the latest developments in Myanmar and related to Myanmar by offering analysis and insight into the subjects that matter. Our websites and our social media channels provide readers and viewers with up-to-the-minute and up-to-date news, which we don’t necessarily need to replicate in our Mizzima Weekly magazine. But where we see a gap is in providing more analysis, insight and in-depth coverage of Myanmar, that is of particular interest to a range of readers.

2. Hyperlocal news platform specifically designed for citizen journalists. Alpha version of site launched in Fall 2009. Beta version to launch in Summer 2010. Published by The Public Square Project. Funded in part by a Seed Award from The Sprout Fund. What Is The Pittsburgh Citizen?
3. “When the people formerly known as the audienceemploy the press tools they have in their possession to inform one another, that’s citizen journalism.” --Jay Rosen Our (Adopted) Definition of Citizen Journalism
4. Journalism is essential to democracy. Traditional reporting models are endangered. See: Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Rocky Mountain News, San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Globe Experimentation with new journalism models is necessary to build the capacity of traditional media sources to cover the news. Too much data to digest without resorting to forms of crowdsourced reporting. Citizen Journalism Matters Because:
5. Original reporting by citizen journalists working with The Pittsburgh Citizen (e.g., G-20 Summit project) Content produced by partner organizations and individuals (other non-profits, blogs, tweets, etc.) Aggregated content focused on specific issues (e.g., our Marcellus Shale Issue Spotlight) Content Published on The Citizen
6. Editorial Support - You will work side-by-side with a trained journalist who will assist you in reporting and writing your story. You'll even be able to collaborate with your editor online through our Virtual Reporter’s Notebook™. Access to Sources - Need a particular government document or access to a source for an interview? The Pittsburgh Citizen team will help you track down that source. Publication - We will publish your work, including all associated audio, video, documents, and photographs, and promote your story so that it reaches a wide audience. How Do We Support Citizen Journalists?
