Brief…
• “The Paper Boy”, an orphan, who sells newspapers and also works at a tiny tea stall.
The story definitely revolves around him, but is actually a reality check to the gloom
sprouting on the shore of a river in the city of Joy, Kolkata.
• It’s a cold winter morning. On the shore of Hugli river,The day of
paper boy starts.Tring–Tring as the cycle bell rang, the boy wakes
up. Rubbing his eyes and yawning, he thinks “Here, start a new day”
• After taking all those newspapers he starts his day. Knocking at the
door, throwing the newspaper and putting them into the letter box.
• After finishing all his work, grabbing a role of roti in his hand, he thinks, “Done with
the day, after distributing all the newspaper.”
• The boy picks up the stone and starts scribbling and drawing a hut on a wall, perhaps
a home for him, wiping his tears, "Someday I will have my own house with a beautiful
gate and windows, but I don’t know when it is going to happen.”
• The next day, he was washing dishes of the tea stall, he used to work, his eyes got stuck on
the beautiful pair of shoe lying on the bank of the river. “Wow!These shoes are beautiful. I
think someone must have forgotten. Shall I take them? No, its wrong, they are not mine.
Moreover, my master will yell at me thinking that I have stolen them.”
• After that the boy went back to his work, leaving those shoes on the bank.
• In the evening, after finishing all his work he sat on the railing, making a telescope from
the paper, looking at the passenger boat, "Today it seems that there are fewer
passengers in the boat, I also want to get a ride..” Suddenly he saw those shoes which
he saw in the morning. “But wait.. Those beautiful shoes.. But the river will take them
away, where is its owner…. it seems they are meant for me. I am going to take them.”
• Excited and happy he ran towards them.
• The boy ran and grabbed those shoes, hiding them under his sweater so that his
master does not see them and put them in his old trunk. After that, at night
he opens his trunk and look at those shoes, “I will wear them on the next day. It is
really beautiful and fits me too….”
• He was happy and went to sleep.
• The next day, He started his day wearing those
shoes and was happy to wear them. But he sees
that the newspapers thrown by him into windows
coming back to him. "What is this? Newspaper….
But why someone has thrown it back to me… (he
open the newspaper)A chocolate… for me????”
• Boy gets confused. And move forward distributing
newspapers. “Another again.. Now what.. It’s
pencil… what is happening today..Who is throwing
this back to me..Why I am not able to see them..”
• Thinking and wondering about what was
happening to him, he moves forward, but again
the same thing happens, “Now what is it???? A
sketchbook… (the boy get emotional) How do they
know I always wanted these …”
• Tring-Tring the cycle bell rang, and he woke up; “oh!! It was a dream” Looking at the
shoes he was wearing he realized one thing that If he want anything in his life he have
to stand on his feet and work hard to achieve his dreams. “I have understood what my
dream meant,Yes I will work hard to get my dream come true.”
