This document discusses how to lose weight while sleeping by fueling your "fat furnace", or basal metabolic rate. It recommends three steps: 1) Eat enough to trigger adaptive thermogenesis and avoid starvation mode, 2) Eat a high-carbohydrate diet to take advantage of the thermic effect of food, as carbs burn faster than fats, and 3) Engage in regular exercise to raise your metabolic rate, even when not exercising. Following these three steps is said to keep the metabolic rate high and help burn calories around the clock, including when sleeping.
- Lean body mass, also known as muscle mass, is important for burning calories because muscle cells burn more calories at rest than fat cells. Muscle burns about three times as many calories as fat when at rest.
- Strength training through exercises like weight lifting, pushups, and situps can help prevent muscle loss during weight loss and help retain muscle mass to keep metabolism high. Even simple home exercises targeting major muscle groups can help.
- Losing weight too quickly can cause muscle loss and a slowing of metabolism over time, so strength training during weight loss aims to preserve lean body mass for optimal calorie burning.
The document discusses the principles and benefits of the HawaiiDiet. It recommends checking with your doctor before starting the diet if you have any health issues or take medications. The HawaiiDiet focuses on eating whole, plant-based foods as your ancestors did, with very low fat and no cholesterol. Following the diet can result in about 11 pounds of weight loss and improvements in health issues like blood sugar and blood pressure. The HawaiiDiet is meant to be a permanent lifestyle, not just a temporary diet.
The document discusses the principles and guidelines of the HawaiiDiet. It recommends checking with your doctor before starting the diet if you have any health issues or take medications. The HawaiiDiet focuses on eating whole, plant-based foods as our ancestors did and uses local and seasonal ingredients. It aims to keep fat and cholesterol intake low while emphasizing exercise, stress reduction, and mindfulness. Followers can expect to lose weight naturally while feeling satisfied from the bulkier foods, with potential exposure to a wider variety of multicultural dishes.
This document discusses how retaining lean body mass through resistance exercise can help you lose weight while sleeping. It explains that muscle burns more calories than fat, so the more muscle mass one has, the higher their resting metabolic rate. Resistance exercise prevents muscle loss during dieting and helps retain or increase muscle mass. The document provides examples of simple resistance exercises that can be done at home like pushups, situps, and lifting cans of soup as weights. These exercises work the major muscle groups and help maximize fat burning.
The document discusses the principles of the Hawaii Diet, which is guided by traditional Hawaiian values and spirituality. It emphasizes concepts like lokahi (oneness and connection between all things), pono (righteousness), aloha (universal love), and mana (life force or spirit). The diet focuses on eating locally grown foods, especially starchy staples and vegetables, in harmony with one's environment.
The document discusses an "Eat More Diet" approach to weight loss that focuses on eating more low-calorie, high-volume foods to feel full. It references a study where participants lost weight while eating more food on this diet compared to a standard American diet. The diet emphasizes foods that are high in bulk and fiber to satisfy hunger, rather than limiting calories. Participants in one study lost an average of 17 pounds in 3 months while eating more food and feeling satisfied.
The document discusses how eating certain foods high in complex carbohydrates and low in fat can increase calorie burning and help with weight loss. It explains that complex carbohydrates from foods like whole grains and beans increase metabolism more than refined carbs and fats. Eating a diet high in these complex carbs and low in fat maximizes the "thermic effect of food" which is the calorie burning effect of digestion, allowing one to lose weight even while sleeping.

In the Native Hawaiian community, there is high levels of material poverty but also great spiritual and cultural wealth. The document discusses how properly nurturing spiritual and cultural strengths can help improve health outcomes where material poverty has negatively impacted health. It then provides details on a 3-week trial of the HawaiiDiet program involving 23 community leaders, finding an average weight loss of 10.8 pounds and improvements in cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, and triglyceride levels.
The document summarizes the Hawaii Diet program. It describes how the diet includes easy to prepare recipes from various cultures and world-class chefs. It also outlines results from a 3-week program where 23 community leaders lost an average of 10.8 pounds and saw improvements in cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, and blood pressure levels. The author invites readers to apply the diet and lifestyle principles of the Hawaii Diet to improve their health.
The document introduces the Eat More, Weigh Less Diet which claims that eating more food can help people lose weight. It asserts that scientific evidence shows that most people are overweight because they do not eat enough foods that satisfy their hunger, leaving them craving unhealthy foods. The diet teaches selecting foods based on an "Eat More Index" to find foods that fill you up. Several success stories are provided of people who lost significant weight while eating more on this diet.
The document describes a nutrition and lifestyle program called the Hawaii Diet. It aims to help people lose weight and improve their health by focusing on whole, unprocessed foods while also emphasizing exercise, stress reduction, and spiritual well-being. The diet allows unlimited eating of healthy foods and has helped many people lose significant weight without feeling deprived. It draws on principles of traditional Hawaiian eating and lifestyle as well as modern nutrition science.
The document discusses how sleep is important for weight control and losing weight. It notes that ancient Chinese medicine from 5,000 years ago recognized sleep as important for health and longevity. Modern research has found that lack of sleep can negatively impact hormones like leptin and ghrelin that regulate appetite and metabolism, making weight loss more difficult. Getting enough quality sleep is found to be as important as diet and exercise for maintaining a healthy weight.
The Eat More, Weigh Less Diet is a nutrition re-training program developed by the author to help address diet-related diseases and obesity. The program focuses on foods with a high "Eat More Index" (EMI), meaning foods that take more pounds to consume 2500 daily calories. These high-EMI foods satisfy hunger before excessive calories can be consumed, aiding weight loss. The author hopes the program will help people avoid illness and live long, healthy lives by addressing the dietary epidemic that is causing high rates of death from diseases like heart disease and cancer.
The document summarizes the Hawaii Diet program. The Hawaii Diet is a whole person program that focuses on food, diet, exercise, stress reduction, and Hawaiian concepts to maximize health. It emphasizes eating whole, unprocessed foods like fruits and vegetables without calorie counting. The diet integrates modern nutrition science with ancient Hawaiian wisdom and traditional diets from healthy cultures. It allows flexibility and provides easy, delicious recipes. The program aims to help people lose weight, increase energy, and improve health and well-being.
This document discusses suppressing hunger without medication by understanding the hunger mechanism. It explains that hunger drives us to eat for survival but we now overeat processed foods that don't stretch the stomach enough. This doesn't trigger the hormones that signal fullness. Processed foods provide many calories without volume, overloading the system before satisfaction. Understanding how natural foods trigger the hunger mechanism can help control hunger without artificial means.

The biomechanics of running involves the study of the mechanical principles underlying running movements. It includes the analysis of the running gait cycle, which consists of the stance phase (foot contact to push-off) and the swing phase (foot lift-off to next contact). Key aspects include kinematics (joint angles and movements, stride length and frequency) and kinetics (forces involved in running, including ground reaction and muscle forces). Understanding these factors helps in improving running performance, optimizing technique, and preventing injuries.

Breast cancer: Post menopausal endocrine therapyDr. Sumit KUMAR
Breast cancer in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) status is a common and complex condition that necessitates a multifaceted approach to management. HR+ breast cancer means that the cancer cells grow in response to hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. This subtype is prevalent among postmenopausal women and typically exhibits a more indolent course compared to other forms of breast cancer, which allows for a variety of treatment options.
Diagnosis and Staging
The diagnosis of HR+ breast cancer begins with clinical evaluation, imaging, and biopsy. Imaging modalities such as mammography, ultrasound, and MRI help in assessing the extent of the disease. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the biopsy sample confirm the diagnosis and hormone receptor status by identifying the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) on the tumor cells.
Staging involves determining the size of the tumor (T), the involvement of regional lymph nodes (N), and the presence of distant metastasis (M). The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system is commonly used. Accurate staging is critical as it guides treatment decisions.
Treatment Options
Endocrine Therapy
Endocrine therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for HR+ breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The primary goal is to reduce the levels of estrogen or block its effects on cancer cells. Commonly used agents include:
Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs): Tamoxifen is a SERM that binds to estrogen receptors, blocking estrogen from stimulating breast cancer cells. It is effective but may have side effects such as increased risk of endometrial cancer and thromboembolic events.
Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs): These drugs, including anastrozole, letrozole, and exemestane, lower estrogen levels by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which converts androgens to estrogen in peripheral tissues. AIs are generally preferred in postmenopausal women due to their efficacy and safety profile compared to tamoxifen.
Selective Estrogen Receptor Downregulators (SERDs): Fulvestrant is a SERD that degrades estrogen receptors and is used in cases where resistance to other endocrine therapies develops.
Combination Therapies
Combining endocrine therapy with other treatments enhances efficacy. Examples include:
Endocrine Therapy with CDK4/6 Inhibitors: Palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib are CDK4/6 inhibitors that, when combined with endocrine therapy, significantly improve progression-free survival in advanced HR+ breast cancer.
Endocrine Therapy with mTOR Inhibitors: Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, can be added to endocrine therapy for patients who have developed resistance to aromatase inhibitors.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is generally reserved for patients with high-risk features, such as large tumor size, high-grade histology, or extensive lymph node involvement. Regimens often include anthracyclines and taxanes.

PGx Analysis in VarSeq: A User’s PerspectiveGolden Helix
Since our release of the PGx capabilities in VarSeq, we’ve had a few months to gather some insights from various use cases. Some users approach PGx workflows by means of array genotyping or what seems to be a growing trend of adding the star allele calling to the existing NGS pipeline for whole genome data. Luckily, both approaches are supported with the VarSeq software platform. The genotyping method being used will also dictate what the scope of the tertiary analysis will be. For example, are your PGx reports a standalone pipeline or would your lab’s goal be to handle a dual-purpose workflow and report on PGx + Diagnostic findings.
The purpose of this webcast is to:
Discuss and demonstrate the approaches with array and NGS genotyping methods for star allele calling to prep for downstream analysis.
Following genotyping, explore alternative tertiary workflow concepts in VarSeq to handle PGx reporting.
Moreover, we will include insights users will need to consider when validating their PGx workflow for all possible star alleles and options you have for automating your PGx analysis for large number of samples. Please join us for a session dedicated to the application of star allele genotyping and subsequent PGx workflows in our VarSeq software.

3. Recent studies have shown that most diets
really don't work and can even be harmful.
This book turns the traditional concept of
dieting upside down and replaces these old
ideas with a healthy plan for weight loss
designed around the latest information - a
plan that can be sustained for the rest of your
life.
Webhealthforyou.com
5. At any given time in these United States, some 43
million people are on a diet to lose weight.
Diet pills and liquid diets have been with us for
decades now, with mixed and often alarming results.
A large, well designed study done in 1990 called the
"National Health Interview Survey" estimated that in
the U.S., a staggering 28,688,881 or 40.1% of women
were trying to lose weight and 15,009,011 or 23.3% of
the men were trying to lose weight.
Webhealthforyou.com
6. One major reason is that almost all "diets" work, yet
ultimately they fail. They produce gratifying weight
loss but in the end, people gain it back. This holds
for just about all diets, including the liquid diets such
as the powdered formula diets, the liquid protein
diets, low calorie diets, modified fasts, and drugs.
Webhealthforyou.com
7. The most common type of diet is a simple calorie
restriction diet. To be sure, this type of diet works.
However, one of the most common reasons these
diets fail is that they fight your hunger by limiting
calories or by "portion control," or focusing on a
strictly limited amount of a single formula (e.g.
powdered shake) or food (e.g. grapefruit diet)
without taking into account your hunger or your
body's metabolism.
Webhealthforyou.com
8. If the calorie count is too low, your body fights back
by changing its metabolic setpoint, that gauge which
determines your metabolic activity and therefore the
rate at which you burn calories.
In other words the hungrier you are, the more your
body resists losing weight. In addition, many diets
have you count calories without considering that
most people will find it impractical to count calories
for the rest of their lives.
Webhealthforyou.com
9. There are two problems with this type of diet: first is the
"yo-yo" effect that we've already mentioned; second,
without eating a variety of real food, no one can stay on
these diets and remain healthy for any significant period
of time.
One of the best known types of diets is the
low-carbohydrate diet or the "military diet." Some
examples of the "military diet" include the Atkins diet and
a variety of the Stillman diet. Furthermore, most of the
foods on these diets are high in fat and cholesterol and
therefore increase your risks of cardiovascular disease and
cancer. There is no "quick fix" in dieting.
Webhealthforyou.com
10. The media, with all its tantalizing
advertisements for food, is another part of the
problem. TV food ads sensualize food, deify
it, romanticize it--and generally reinforce our
fixations. Something is seriously wrong with
our relationships with the foods we eat when
the foods we choose are what's killing us!
Webhealthforyou.com
12. In this book, you'll learn which foods help you lose
weight--fit foods--and which help you gain
weight--fat foods. You can identify these foods with
the help of a simple tool that I developed, the "Eat
More Index' (EMI).
The simple purpose of this book is to show you how
the summarized principles of all our human
experience can help you lose weight--your excess
weight--automatically.
Webhealthforyou.com
13. The main concept behind any conventional
weight-loss program is: Input minus output = weight
loss (or gain). That is, the number of calories you eat
minus the number of calories you burn each day
determines how much weight you gain or lose. Said
another way, in order to lose weight, you have to eat
fewer calories than you burn, or burn more calories
than you eat. (Calories, by the way, are simply units
of energy).
Webhealthforyou.com
14. This `input-output' concept is why most reputable
weight loss programs ask you to count calories and
limit portion size. Recent research is changing our
understanding about calories and finding that
calories are not always equal. . The Eat More Diet
takes these concepts and makes it practical for you to
incorporate them into your daily life.
Webhealthforyou.com
16. You will learn how to melt your fat away by
consuming food that satisfies your hunger
while at the same time automatically
decreasing the intake of calories-- without
counting them! You'll learn how to increase
the output of calories WITH OR WITHOUT
EXERCISE, while you are at the same time
satisfying your hunger rather than depriving
yourself of food.
Webhealthforyou.com
17. Very soon you're going to learn how to EAT
MORE AND WEIGH LESS, and at this very
moment you're on your way to new health,
new vitality, and a slimmer, trimmer you!
