1970’s
The Beginning
Greg Glassman is the founder of CrossFit. It started off with Greg
just wanting to get stronger instead of doing bodyweight gymnast
workouts. He began creating his own workouts with barbell’s, pull-
ups, and dumbbells. Between the 1970’s and 1990’s he started to
train people with CrossFit workouts. Eventually leading to the first
CrossFit gym opening in Seattle in 2000.

CrossFit?
CrossFit is a combination of HITT (high-intensity interval training),
Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, gymnastics, strongman,
kettlebell lifting, calisthenics, plyometrics, and many more
exercises.

CrossFit rapidly became popular within certain crowds of people.
Such as police forces, military bases, and through online exposure.
Once veterans would return home from war they would come
back speaking highly of crossfit.
By 2005 there were 13 places you could do crossfit at.When 2012
rolled around there were 3,400.Today there’s more than 9,000
worldwide. Crossfit continues to grow and gets even more
attention now due to the yearly CrossFit Games.

Games
The Crossfit games have been around since 2007. According to Forbes it is
one of the fastest growing sports in America.What the games do are test
the athletes to find out who the fittest one earth is. It was created
because there was no other fitness test had existed.The ironman
triathlons, NFL, and decathlons. It’s made up of a range of functional
movements. Large loads, long distances, quickly. It’s designed to simply
test.The goal is to find the fittest athletes.

Greg Glassman was very strict with who was going to sponsor his
brand. Eventually he ended up collidingCrossFit with Reebok.
Reebok made a weightlifting shoe designed for CrossFit & the
shoe took off in sales, that led to more products for CrossFit.
