The concept of a knowledge worker
The term “knowledge worker” was first coined by Peter Drucker. Ducker defined knowledge workers as high-level workers who apply theoretical and analytical knowledge, acquired through formal training, to develop products and services (CFI, 2019). He emphasized that due to the high level of productivity and creativity of knowledge worker, that they would be the most valuable assets in the 21st century organization. Professionals that can be referred to as knowledge worker includes engineers, pharmacists, architects, financial analysts, public accountants, physicians, scientists, design thinkers, and lawyers. Furthermore, knowledge workers have a high degree of expertise, experience, education and the primary purpose of their jobs involve the distribution, creation and application of knowledge.

1. Return to the "Research Question" discussion and follow the 3-2-1 style response where you:
· Select 3 classmates' posts to respond to in 100-200 words
· Include 2 relative or substantive comments in each response
· Include 1 suggestion or idea for further exploration
· Include the support of valid references with correct APA style of referencing. Remember, your textbook is a reliable information source, and page citations are immensely helpful to everyone.
To help identify a researchable research question, consider the following suggested strategy. Begin with a broad area of interest (i.e., safe staffing levels, hunger, obesity) and then begin to streamline this focus (i.e., personal, client, or organizational factors that influence definitions of safe staffing; the impact of access to grocery stores or local farmers' markets has on abating hunger; influence of personalized education programs discussing exercise and diet on weight reduction).

Develop a 2-4-page scholarly paper in which you describe a qualimackulaytoni
Develop a 2-4-page scholarly paper in which you describe a quality or safety issue, or a chosen diagnosis, and then identify and analyze credible evidence that could be used as the basis for applying EBP to the issue.
The goal of using evidence-based research findings is to enhance safety and quality of patient care and ensure optimal outcomes are achieved. It is not uncommon to hear a nurse say, "why change it as we’ve always done it this way." However, this is no longer acceptable in today's practice environment. The profession of nursing has evolved, and the expectation is that the professional nurse has a scientific foundation to support the care that is provided. As the profession of nursing continues to evolve and engage in health care transformation, baccalaureate-prepared nurses are expanding taking on leadership roles that include incorporating EBPs. To be able to do this, the nurse needs to understand the criteria and makes a resource credible, as this is crucial when deciding if the research is valid and reliable for implementation into health care settings.
It would be an excellent choice to complete the Vila Health Determining the Credibility of Evidence activity prior to developing the report. The activity is a media simulation that offers an opportunity to review a scenario and work on determining the credibility of presented evidence. These skills will be necessary to complete Assessment 2 successfully. This media simulation is one potential source of context on which to base your assessment submission. This will take just a few minutes of your time and is not graded.
DEMONSTRATION OF PROFICIENCY
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:
Competency 2: Analyze the relevance and potential effectiveness of evidence when making a decision.
Explain criteria that should be considered when determining credibility of resources such as journal articles and websites.
Analyze the credibility and relevance of evidence and resources within the context of a quality or safety issue, or a chosen diagnosis.
Competency 3: Apply an evidence-based practice model to address a practice issue.
Explain the importance of incorporating credible evidence into an EBP model used to address a quality or safety issue, or a chosen diagnosis.
Competency 4: Plan care based on the best available evidence.
Describe a quality or safety issue, or a chosen diagnosis, that could benefit from an evidence-based approach.
Competency 5: Apply professional, scholarly communication strategies to lead practice changes based on evidence.
Communicate using writing that is clear, logical, and professional with correct grammar and spelling using current APA style.

· Write an executive summary, 4-5 pages in length, of existing outcome measures related to a performance issue uncovered in your gap analysis that you intend to address.
Introduction
Note: Each assessment in this course builds on the work you completed in the previous assessment. Therefore, you must complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.
As a nurse leader, you must be able to access, identify, and describe outcome measures as they relate to safety and quality problems in your organization.
This assessment provides an opportunity to examine existing outcome measures, assess their strategic value, and present your findings to executive leaders in a manner that will help you gain their support.
Quality and safety are everyone's responsibility as a team of interprofessional care delivery partners. Together we develop policies that support quality and safe care delivery. As part of the interprofessional team, nurses are leaders in care and thus are responsible and accountable for leading and providing safe quality care.
Health care delivery is structured around evidenced-based information. Quality is defined by exploring proven, evidenced-based information. After reviewing and defining evidenced-based information, the interprofessional team applies this knowledge to assess the organization's or the practice setting's ability to provide evidenced-based care delivery. When a gap in care is identified, it is important to propose an evidenced-based change and to execute a plan for improved care.
Your summary of relevant outcome measures is based on your findings from the quality and safety gap analysis you completed in the previous assessment.
Preparation
Your analysis of the gap between current and desired performance was the first step toward improving outcomes. You now have the information you need to move forward with proposed changes. Your next step is to focus on existing outcome measures and their relationship to the systemic problem you are addressing. For this assessment, you have been asked to draft a summary of existing outcome measures for your organization's executive team to raise awareness of the problem and the strategic value of existing measures.
Note: As you revise your writing, check out the resources listed on the Writing Center's
Writing Supportpage.
As you prepare to complete this assessment, you may want to think about other related issues to deepen your understanding or broaden your viewpoint. You are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of your professional community. Note that these questions are for your own development and exploration and do not need to be completed or submitted as part of your assessment.
Building stakeholder support is crucial to fostering and sustaining change. Therefore, as you approach this assessment, think about the stakeholders w.
SMART GOAL
Leadership SMART Goal Leadership goal Setting a goal is important since it really gives clarity to a person’s vision. A goal specifies the outcome of what one wants to accomplish (Jay, 2011). Developing a SMART leadership goal ensures that one’s goal is actually focused and offers a clear idea of what one wants to accomplish. In essence, a goal that is SMART makes it simpler for one to come up with pertinent activities, to measure his or her progress towards accomplishing the goal, and know when he or she has met his/her goal (Jay, 2011). For me, setting a SMART goal will make what I want tangible since I am declaring to myself that this is really what I want. Basically, the SMART goal will help me to focus my everyday energy towards making my dreams and wishes come true. My set goal is SMART in the following way: Specific: Haughey (2014) pointed out that a specific goal has to be focused, detailed, and stated clearly. My goal is specific enough; it is to work in interdisciplinary/interprofessional teams by Week 10 (as selected from the Institute of Medicine (IOM)). In these teams, I should be able to work with other professionals to offering the best care available to transplant patients and help the patients before the transplant, during the transplant, and after. To accomplish this goal, I will greet and introduce myself to various health professionals in the Transplant Services Department so familiarize my self with the department and the transplant of patients and cooperate, collaborate, communicate, and integrate care in teams to ensure that care is continuous and reliable. In the future health care system, health professionals will have to understand the advantage of high levels of cooperation, coordination, and standardization to guarantee excellence, continuity, safety, and reliability. In short, they will have to think of themselves as a team working in and contributing to a larger system. As Don Berwick, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, said at the summit, The team members integrate their observations, bodies of expertise, and spheres of decision making. Thus this competency refers to the various disciplines working together to address the needs of patients. Interdisciplinary teams are critical in dealing with the increasing complexity of care, coordinating and responding to multiple patient needs, keeping pace with the demands of new technology, responding to the demands of payors, and delivering care across settings Teams tend to reduce the utilization of redundant or duplicate services, and they also tend to develop more creative solutions to complex problems because of their members’ diverse academic backgrounds and experience. Patients needing chronic care, critical acute care, geriatric care, and care at the end of life require smooth team functioning because of the complexity of their needs. Different means and settings for delivering care, such as managed care, community-based care, rehabilitation centers,.

Original Prompt:
Compare Carroll's strategies for creating sound in
Jabberwocky
with those used by Swenson in
A Nosty
Fright.
Pay attention to connotative and denotative meanings of the words and how the poet plays with sound.
Edilzon Ramirez
Response to Prompt:
In both poems there is a common element. And that is a wordplay to make nonsense poetry. The effect of this, is that we must think more in depth to figure out the real meaning behind the works of literature. In Jabberwocky, the writer begins by setting up the mood giving us the background of the events that are about to occur. The use of exclamation marks throughout the poem afterwards, are what in my opinion, give it the sound. For example, “O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!” suggests sort of a proud/relived cry. Which is furthered backed up by the whimsical words that have a positive connation to them due to the slaying of the jabberwocky, who terrorized the people.
While in “A Nosty Fright” another poem with nonsense words or portmanteau the mood is sad, and it only becomes gloomier. Like Miss Brill, the poet describes things together, in the first stanza “roldengod and the soneyhuckle” and jumps to a lonely chipmunk, suggesting that it has lost its companion. There is hope for it when it meets the grasshopper. Ultimately, it comes to an end “Here we part,” said the hassgropper. “Pere we hart,” mipchunk, too”. All hope is lost for the chipmunk and is waiting for the winter to come. This symbolizes death because during the months of October, November, and December many mammals including the chipmunks hibernate and its almost like it wanted to go to sleep permanently remarking things like “Will it ever be morning, Nofember virst”.
Some say, that the chipmunk is a representation of the author and her sexuality. She like the chipmunk, was alone and the typhoon that was mentioned earlier, was her losing her mind. The words and the sounds they make, further makes this evident because it is gibberish written by someone who is broken.

This week's discussion prompt:
Explain how Faith in "Young Goodman Brown," Georgiana in "The Birthmark," and Elizabeth in "The Black Minister's Veil" are use to reveal some truth about the central male characters in each story. Describe the similarities that you see among these women characters.
Peer's Post:
-Emily Seide
In each of the three short stories, the female characters play a large role in the character development of the three male protagonists (Goodman, Aylmer, and Hooper). Throughout each story, the women leave a lasting impact on their significant other’s mentality of the world and perception of others. In “Young Goodman Brown”, Brown is faced with troubling sights that make him alter his point of view on his town and the townspeople. Brown was introduced to the true form of some nasty people, including his wife, Faith. When he returns home the next morning from a place of sinister evil, his encounter with Faith and his townspeople has made him a hardcore skeptic of anyone and everyone around him. Goodman Brown never trusted a soul after that night because he was forced to believe that evil resides in everyone. In “The Birthmark”, Aylmer goes insane trying to remove his wife, Georgiana’s, birthmark. Even after hearing how beautiful and well liked she is, Georgiana agrees to get her birthmark removed. Rather than seeing this as a perfect part of her, Aylmer sees the birthmark as a flaw that gives her an imperfect complexion. Later in the story, as the birthmark fades and she wakes up, she states that he should’ve admired what he had in the first place, then dies. This made Aylmer realize that he took time for granted, and now he lives a life without Georgiana due to his impatience with her already beautiful complexion. And finally, in “The Minister’s Black Veil”, Reverend Hooper consistently wears a black veil that covers the majority of his face. Several people were afraid and intimidated by it, except for his fiancée, Elizabeth. After further questioning, she begins to fear the veil due to what it symbolizes- the sin in all human beings. Hooper’s plea for Elizabeth to stay reveals the extent of which he is willing to sacrifice, and the decision for him to continue to wear the veil reveals great sorrow; “Do not leave me in this miserable obscurity forever!” (Hawthorne, 36). In each of the short stories, each female character, always a love interest, is first skeptical of the main character’s choice of actions, then later comply. In each short story, a life lesson is learned for each male character.

Topic:
Technology changes education
Postman argues that television technology substantively changes aspects of culture such as news, politics, religion, and education in ways that suit the technology, not the human culture that uses the technology. It is a point others have made as well, though it is still contested by many other philosophers and social critics. One excellent example of technological change is on-line course delivery. While there are some who say that the new medium does not provide an education, others (such as your instructor) believe they can accomplish a better education in some subject areas. What have you noticed? What differences are there in on-line education that are due to the way it is technologically mediated? What differences do they make in the education you are receiving? Do you think this is a better or worse education? Why might your instructor think it can be better (and not just because he manages the class while in his pajamas)?

write a resonse paper mla style
HAIR
Hair deeply affects people, can transfigure or repulse them. Symbolic of life, hair bolts from our head. Like the earth, it can be harvested, but it will rise again. We can change its color and texture when the mood strikes us, but in time it will return to its original form, just as Nature will in time turn our precisely laid-out cities into a weed-way. Giving one's lover a lock of hair to wear in a small locket [3] around his neck used to be a moving and tender gesture, but also a dangerous one, since to spell-casters, magicians, voodoo-ers, and necromancers of all sorts, a tuft of someone's hair could be used to cast a spell against them. In a variation on this theme, a medieval knight wore a lock of his lady's pubic hair into battle. Since one of the arch-tenets of courtly love was secrecy, choosing this tiny memento instead of a lock of hair from her head may have been more of a practical choice than a philosophical one, but it still symbolized her life-force, which he was carrying with him. Ancient male leaders wore long flowing tresses as a sign of virility (in fact,
"kaiser" and "tsar" both mean "long-haired"
). In the biblical story of Samson, the hero's loss of hair brings on his weakness and downfall, just as it did for the hero Gilgamesh before him. In Europe in more recent times, women who collaborated with the enemy in World War II were humiliated by having their hair cut short. Among some orthodox Jews, a young woman must cut off her hair when she marries, lest her husband find her too attractive and wish to have sex with her out of desire rather than for procreation. Rastafarians regard their dreadlocks as "high-tension cables to heaven." These days, to shock the bourgeoisie and establish their own identity, as every generation must, many young men and women wear their hair as freeform sculpture, with lacquered spikes, close-cropped patterns that resemble a formal garden maze, and colors borrowed from an aviary or spray-painted alley. The first time a student walked into my classroom wearing a "blue jay," it did startle me. Royal-blue slabs of hair were brushed and sprayed straight up along the sides of his head, a long jelly roll of white hair fell forward over his eyebrows, and the back was shiny black, brushed straight up and plastered close to the head. I didn't dislike it, it just seemed like a lot to fuss with each day. I'm sure my grandmother felt that way about my mother's "beehive," and I know my mother feels that way about the curly weather system which is my own mane of long thick hair. One's hairstyle can be the badge of a group, as we've always known -- look at the military's crew cut, or the hairstyles worn by some nuns and monks. In the sixties, wearing long hair, especially if you were a man, often fetched a vitriolic outburst from parents, which is why the musical Hair summed up a generation so beautifully. The police, who seemed so clean-cut and cropped then, were succee.

Write a research report based on a hypothetical research study. Con.docxarnoldmeredith47041
Write a research report based on a hypothetical research study. Conducting research and writing a report is common practice for many students and practitioners in any of the behavioral sciences fields.
A research report, which is based on scientific method, is typically composed of the different sections listed below:
Introduction:
The introduction states a specific hypothesis and how that hypothesis was derived by connecting it to previous research.
Methods:
The methods section describes the details of how the hypothesis was tested and clarifies why the study was conducted in that particular way.
Results:
The results section is where the raw uninterpreted data is presented.
Discussion:
The discussion section is where an argument is presented on whether or not the data supports the hypothesis, the possible implications and limitations of the study, as well as possible future directions for this type of research.
Together, these sections should tell the reader what was done, how it was done, and what was learned through the research. You will create a research report based on a
hypothetical
problem, sample, results, and literature review. Organize your data by creating meaningful sections within your report. Make sure that you:
Apply key concepts of inferential hypothesis tests.
Interpret the research findings of the study.
Examine the assumptions and limitations of inferential tests.
Develop a practical application of the research principles covered in this course.
Focus of the Research Report
To begin, create a hypothetical research study (you do not have to carry out the study; you will just have to describe it) that is based on the three pieces of information listed below. Once you have your hypothetical study created, write a three- to four-page research report (excluding title and reference pages) that outlines the study. You are encouraged to be creative with your research study, but be sure to follow the format outlined below and adhere to APA formatting as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
Your hypothetical research study should be based on the following information:
Recent research has indicated that eating chocolate can improve memory. Jones and Wilson (2011) found that eating chocolate two hours before taking math tests improved scores significantly. Wong, Hideki, Anderson, and Skaarsgard (2009) found that women are better than men on memory tests after eating chocolate.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The Nurse Leader as Knowledge Worker
2
Purpose
Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.
2. Define and explain nursing informatics and highlight the role of
a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
The concept of a knowledge worker
The term “knowledge worker” was first coined by Peter
Drucker. Ducker defined knowledge workers as high-level
workers who apply theoretical and analytical knowledge,
acquired through formal training, to develop products and
services (CFI, 2019). He emphasized that due to the high level
of productivity and creativity of knowledge worker, that they
would be the most valuable assets in the 21st century
organization. Professionals that can be referred to as knowledge
worker includes engineers, pharmacists, architects, financial
analysts, public accountants, physicians, scientists, design
thinkers, and lawyers. Furthermore, knowledge workers have a
high degree of expertise, experience, education and the primary
purpose of their jobs involve the distribution, creation and
application of knowledge.
3

3. Nursing Informatics
Nursing Informatics is a subset of informatics, specific to the
nursing field and the role of the nurse in the healthcare setting.
There has been several interpretation of nursing informatics.
The American Nurses Association (ANA), identified nursing
informatics as a specialty that integrates nursing, science,
computer science, and information science to manage and
communicate data, information, and knowledge in nursing
practice (ANA, 2001, pg.17).
4
Nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
A nurse leader is one who inspire others to work together to
achieve a common goal, for instance enhanced patient care or
satisfaction. All nurses are called to nurse leadership, however
there are different levels of nurse leadership. Nurse leaders are
expected to help the organization to fulfill the organization’s
mission, vision, values, and strategies to achieve long-range
plans. Nurse leaders part take in policy setting, overseeing
quality measures are carried out, accountability for overall
quality of patient care delivery, staff satisfaction and
organizational outcomes. For a nurse leader as a knowledge
worker to be productive in an organization, the nurse leader
must understand that knowledge work requires continuous
learning on the part of the knowledge worker, but equally
continuous teaching on the part of the knowledge worker.
Having said that, a knowledge worker nurse leader will depend
4. hugely on evidenced based practice to be productive in a
healthcare organization. The use of EBP by knowledge worker
nurse leader will require learning and teaching. Most
healthcare organizations or hospitals rely on evidenced based
practice to improve patient care, increase job satisfaction,
decrease cost etc. Utilization of EBP can increase job
satisfaction thereby decreasing turnover, foster organizational
cohesion, improve patient outcomes, and decrease hospital costs
(Kim et al., 2016).

The use of Evidenced Based Practice (EBP) by knowledge
worker
What is an evidenced based practice and how can EBP help
improve the role of nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
Stevens (2013) defined EBP as the “integration of best research
evidence with clinical expertise and patient values” (p.2).
Evidence-based practice (EBP) was also defined by Melnyk and
Fineout-Overholt (2018) as a life-long problem-solving
5. approach, that is characterized by using the external evidence
from the most relevant research, the internal evidence from
clinical expertise, and patients’ preferences and values. The
intention of EBP is to utilize science and research evidence to
standardize healthcare practices to create optimal and
predictable health outcomes (Stevens, 2013). Nursing decisions
using Evidence Based Practice (EBP) is achieved through the
best research available, combined with knowledge,
collaboration and clinical guidelines (Farokhzadian, Khajouei
and Ahmadian, 2015).
Flowing from the scenario used in my discussion about the 85
years old female that was admitted into the unit with little or no
medical information. The nurse was able to determine that this
patient was admitted into the same hospital last month by
searching the Electronic Health Record (EHR) using the patient
name and birth date. The nurse pulled the record of the last visit
and was able to determine that patient tested positive for
methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) of the nares
and also a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR). EHR is an evidenced
based assessment tool which has been translated into practice,
nurse managers and their staff are uniquely positioned to lead or
join the effort to make a difference with nursing documentation
and HER design.

Healthcare websites are an abundance and at the palm of our
hands. We access them from computers, tablets and phones.
While many websites are resourceful and have a wealth of
information not all are good. A few things to keep in mind when
looking at websites include the ending i.e., .org, .edu and .gov.
We also need to look at the information and who puts the
12. information on these websites. One website and organization
that we may have all heard of is the Mayo Clinic. The Mayo
Clinic is plethora of resources, knowledge and evidence-based
practices (EBP) with patient care at its focus.
The Mayo Clinic embodies evidence-based and
knowledge. To inspire hope and contribute to health and well-
being by providing the best care to every patient through
integrated clinical practice, education and research (Mayo
Clinic, n.d.). This is the mission statement for the Mayo Clinic.
Its primary value is the needs of the patient. The values include
respect, integrity, compassion, healing, teamwork, innovation,
excellence and stewardship. These values are shared by many
organizations like this. Research supports that EBP improves
healthcare quality and safety, patient outcomes, and healthcare
costs as well as empowers clinicians, leading to higher job
satisfaction (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). EBP is
embedded throughout the website. For instance, if a patient
wanted to research a disease or medication the can search for it
and the most current and up-to-date information is readily
available.
The website offers many resources on the home screen
and has an area to do specific searches about anything. When
you search EBP within the website over 656 areas of
information are available to look at. Another well known
organization is the Institute of Medicine (ION). A subsequent
IOM report (2003) called for all health professionals to be
better prepared to keep patients safe, focusing on five core
competencies for health professions education: patient-centered
care, interprofessional collaboration, evidence-based practice,
quality improvement, and informatics (Boller, 2017). Much like
the IOM the Mayo Clinic is embedded in EBP. The article goes
on to mention how utilizing EBP, research and education
provided a better outcome for patients.
13. The Mayo Clinic was not new to me as I have used it in
the past for school and resources. After thoroughly looking
through the website it is eye opening to say the least how
purposeful and the focus of EBP to provide better outcomes.
This is accomplished through patient focus at its center. So, it is
safe to say EBP is at the foundation of this organization as they
are patient focused and use EBP to continue to provide care,
research, education and cutting-edge medicine that many others
within the healthcare industry use and adhere too.

Hi Heidi, indeed mental health is an area that requires
consistent and correct analysis of the patients’ data. Mental
14. issues affect millions of people in the world and medical
practitioners have taken advantage of the data-driven
technologies available today to help administer the correct
therapies to their patients (Limb,2012).I like how you have
clearly demonstrated how access to data in mental health can be
used in various tasks. To expound on your post, every mentally
ill person creates a hypothesis for a particular condition. Thus,
doctors can use such data to create a picture of how to treat
them or which treatment option is best suited for a specific
situation just like you have stated, the history of a patient in
mental health is very crucial during the treatment process. To
determine the progress of the patients, the health care providers
need up to date data, records on weather their health has
improved based on specific measuring parameters (Rosenfeld et
al.,2019).
Mental disorders usually are unique compared to other forms of
illnesses and therefore they require specific diagnostic models.
The different interventions to several mental sicknesses out
there significantly rely upon the amount and type of data
available to the therapists. Luckily, Contemporary society has
been saved by technology in that computerized systems.

Top of FormWhere in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice?
March 21, 2010, was not EBP’s date of birth, but it may be the
date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world.
When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a
requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased
significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health
professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health
organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.
In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will
examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what
extent these organizations use EBP.
To Prepare:
1. Review the Resources and reflect on the definition and goal
of EBP.
2. Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website (e.g.,
a reimbursing body, an accredited body, or a national
initiative).
3. Explore the website to determine where and to what extent
EBP is evident.By Day 3 of Week 1
Post a description of the healthcare organization website you
reviewed. Describe where, if at all, EBP appears (e.g., the
mission, vision, philosophy, and/or goals of the healthcare
organization, or in other locations on the website). Then,
explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded

information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s
website has changed your perception of the healthcare
organization. Be specific and provide examples.By Day 6 of

Assignment: Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim
Healthcare organizations continually seek to optimize
healthcare performance. For years, this approach was a three-
pronged one known as the Triple Aim, with efforts focused on
improved population health, enhanced patient experience, and
lower healthcare costs.
More recently, this approach has evolved to a Quadruple Aim
by including a focus on improving the work life of healthcare
providers. Each of these measures are impacted by decisions
made at the organizational level, and organizations have

Solving
In the modern era, there are few professions that do not to some
extent rely on data. Stockbrokers rely on market data to advise
clients on financial matters. Meteorologists rely on weather data
to forecast weather conditions, while realtors rely on data to
advise on the purchase and sale of property. In these and other
cases, data not only helps solve problems, but adds to the
practitioner’s and the discipline’s body of knowledge.
Of course, the nursing profession also relies heavily on data.
The field of nursing informatics aims to make sure nurses have
access to the appropriate date to solve healthcare problems,
make decisions in the interest of patients, and add to
knowledge.
In this Discussion, you will consider a scenario that would
benefit from access to data and how such access could facilitate
both problem-solving and knowledge formation.
To Prepare:
· Reflect on the concepts of informatics and knowledge work as

Mental health disorders can range from mild depression to
severe psychosis. Depending on how severe the mental health
disorder is can sometimes determine treatment compliance. An
important part of treatment is to be consistent and comply with
the providers’ recommendations, which includes attending
regular appointments for medication management. In most
scenarios a behavioral health patient must attend regular
provider visits in order to keep receiving medication. The
provider will not prescribe for a patient who misses numerous
appointments and therefore the patient may end up going
without medication and declining in health. Behavioral health
disorders have worsened as a result of poor compliance
(Semahegn, Torpey, Manu, Assefa, Tesfaye, & Ankomah,
2018). It is critical that these patients see the provider in order
to not decline in health. According to Gajwani (2014), poor
medical adherence such as not seeing the provider, can lead to
exacerbation of symptoms, relapse and hospitalization. With
technology available today we are able to consult and keep
appointments with providers via the computer, or Telehealth, to
maintain patients’ health status and medication regimen without
interruption. Non-adherence with appointment keeping has
been reported as high as 50% and telepsychiatry could help
alleviate that inconvenience with clinic attendance (Shulman,
20. John, & Kane, 2017). For patients who frequently miss
appointments they could still comply via a telepsychiatry visit.
The data that could be collected would be if telepsychiatry
helps with compliance by those patients who frequently cancel
or no- show appointments to help with medication management
and decrease risk of inpatient hospitalization. The first data we
could gather is if telepsychiatry helps with missed
appointments. The second data we could collect is if the
patients’ health has stayed the same or improved due to having
a virtual visit with the provider versus missing an appointment
and declining in health. The information we collect could help
us to determine which patients, in the future, may benefit from a
virtual visit based on their ability and willingness to show up
for face to face appointments. A nurse leader could use this
information to plan and implement care based on each
individual patients’ needs versus treating each patient uniformly
for the best possible outcome. The behavioral health population
is very unique in that they need care tailored to each specific
individual and diagnoses.

Assignment: The Nurse Leader as Knowledge Worker
The term “knowledge worker” was first coined by management
consultant and author Peter Drucker in his book, The Landmarks
of Tomorrow (1959). Drucker defined knowledge workers as
high-level workers who apply theoretical and analytical
knowledge, acquired through formal training, to develop
products and services. Does this sound familiar?
Nurses are very much knowledge workers. What has changed
since Drucker’s time are the ways that knowledge can be
acquired. The volume of data that can now be generated and the
tools used to access this data have evolved significantly in
recent years and helped healthcare professionals (among many
others) to assume the role of knowledge worker in new and
powerful ways.
In this Assignment, you will consider the evolving role of the
nurse leader and how this evolution has led nurse leaders to
assume the role of knowledge worker. You will prepare a
PowerPoint presentation with an infographic (graphic that
visually represents information, data, or knowledge.
Infographics are intended to present information quickly and
clearly.) to educate others on the role of nurse as knowledge
worker.
Reference: Drucker, P. (1959). The landmarks of tomorrow.
New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers.
To Prepare:
· Review the concepts of informatics as presented in the
Resources.
· Reflect on the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
· Consider how knowledge may be informed by data that is
collected/accessed.
The Assignment:
· Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.
· Define and explain nursing informatics and highlight the role
of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
24. · Develop a simple infographic to help explain these concepts.
NOTE: For guidance on infographics, including how to create
one in PowerPoint, see “How to Make an Infographic in
PowerPoint” presented in the Resources.
· Your PowerPoint should Include the hypothetical scenario you
originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your
examination of the data that you could use, how the data might
be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived
from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from
your colleagues’ responses.

costs as well as empowers clinicians, leading to higher job
satisfaction (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). EBP is
embedded throughout the website.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an approach that guides
clinical decision-making to integrate the best evidence that is
available with an individual’s experience and patient data to
improve patient care (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018).
Compared to traditional approaches to care, EBP is associated
with high-quality care, improved patient outcomes, decreased
health care costs, and improved nurse satisfaction (Melnyk,
Fineout-Overholt, Stillwell, & Williamson, 2010). Nurses have
a crucial role in implementing EBP changes into practice since
they provide the majority of direct patient care (Crabtree,
Brennan, Davis, & Coyle, 2016). Nurses must continue to
question the decisions of treatment and care, encompass the
skills and resources to research evidence, implement the
findings into their practice, and evaluate the effectiveness of the
findings (Crabtree et al., 2016).
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing
(NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization that serves as a
regulatory body for the state boards of nursing, conducts
licensure examinations, and advises on how to protect the
public best (National Council of State Boards of Nursing, n.d.-
b). The NCSBM regularly contributes to evidence-based nursing
with projects and resources (National Council of State Boards
of Nursing, n.d.-e). The NCSBN also has the Center for
Regulatory Excellence (CRE), that provides funding for
scientific research projects, create programs to improve
evidence-based nursing, and provides regulatory experience to
prepare future nurse leaders for the field (National Council of
State Boards of Nursing, n.d.-c). The NCSBN appears to be
grounded in EBP with the programs and resources the
organization offers. The NCSBN’s mission is ultimately to
protect the public, which could be achieved by incorporating
EBP theories (National Council of State Boards of Nursing,
n.d.-a).
28. I was already aware that the NCSBN regulates the state
boards of nursing. However, I did not know the extent to which
the NCSBN contributes to EBP until I further researched the
organization. The organization has helped contribute to EBP by
writing journals, creating programs, conducting studies, and
regulating and improving nursing education (National Council
of State Boards of Nursing, n.d.-e). The NCSBN collaborates
with nursing educators and keeps educators updated on new
information and resources (National Council of State Boards of
Nursing, n.d.-d).

Mental health disorders can range from mild depression to
severe psychosis. Depending on how severe the mental health
disorder is can sometimes determine treatment compliance. An
important part of treatment is to be consistent and comply with
the providers’ recommendations, which includes attending
regular appointments for medication management. In most
scenarios a behavioral health patient must attend regular
30. provider visits in order to keep receiving medication. The
provider will not prescribe for a patient who misses numerous
appointments and therefore the patient may end up going
without medication and declining in health.
Non-adherence with appointment keeping has
been reported as high as 50% and telepsychiatry could help
alleviate that inconvenience with clinic attendance (Shulman,
John, & Kane, 2017).

In the intensive care unit, (ICU), delirium is a major risk for
patients, especially the elderly. To gauge the onset of diagnosis
there are tools that nurses use such as the Richmond Agitation
Sedation Scale and the Confusion Assessment method, (Sajjad,
et.al, 2019). There are also data tools available that monitor the
disparities involved with delirium such as the sub distribution
hazard ratio, (Sajjaad, et.al., 2019). Although knowing the onset
is helpful with gaining timeliness in interventions post delirium,
there is not a data collection tool that monitors what
preventative measures are used and if these measures are
successful. The one exception is that ventilated patients
receiving continuous sedation have documentation that provides
when the sedative drips are paused for sedation vacation. Given
32. the amount of preventative interventions that exist a tool used
daily or every four hours that allots a check off system for
preventative measures could be used and thus help determine
whether preventative interventions decreased ICU delirium.
Suggestions that are non-pharmacologic included reorientation
to time and place at least twice daily, daily screening of
prescribed drugs, sleep hygiene, visible clocks in rooms, and
invitation for family to aide in re-orientation, (Martinez, et.al.,
2017). Although these interventions may take place in the
hospital setting, there is no data tool to link the occurrence of
intervention to the occurrence of delirium onset.
A study providing the feasibility and safety of providing both
cognitive and physical intervention that would assist in
preventing delirium was done in 2014. Brummel’s study proved
that the ability for both set of interventions was safe and
effective for critical patients within the first 72 hours of
hospital admission. In my personal hospital we try to prevent
ICU delirium every shift, however a tool that monitored the
outcome of our interventions is not thorough. We can detect the
onset of delirium but not the measures that were provided
beforehand. With a checkoff tool for preventative interventions
we could gather data and make a connection to whether there
was a short coming of interventions being completed, or if the
interventions that are being done are successful.
