Movin' On Up to the Cloud: How to Migrate your Application Connectivityshira koper
Migrating applications to the cloud or to another data center is a complex and risky process. First, you need to understand the applications you are currently running (application discovery). Then, you need to define and map the existing application connectivity flows (pre-migration), so that you can easily reestablish them post-migration.
If done manually, this is a difficult and time-consuming process, and a single mistake can cause outages, compliance violations and create holes in your security perimeter.
Understanding the migration destination is just as important; cloud security architecture is fundamentally different from physical networks, and it is extremely difficult to translate the network connectivity flows to the cloud security controls and then manage network security policies cohesively across the entire hybrid enterprise environment. All in all, migrating application connectivity is a complex, tedious and error-prone process that can take months and often compromises security, compliance and business agility.
In this webinar, Avivi Siman-Tov, Product Manager at AlgoSec, will explore how to simplify and accelerate large-scale complex application migration projects, while making security a priority.
Attend this webinar to discover best practices to:
- Automatically discover applications and their existing connectivity flows
- Analyze, simulate and compute the necessary changes – even between different network security technologies such as traditional firewalls and cloud security groups
- Execute the necessary firewall rule changes, and mass-migrate relevant connectivity flows
- Assess the risk and ensure compliance throughout the migration process
- Deliver unified security policy management across the hybrid enterprise cloud environment

Many businesses need to cut costs in order to protect their bottom line. Using a landline telephone system can be expensive if your company is using many lines for connecting employees. If you add in long distance phone calls to co-workers in another state or country, the costs can add up. Fortunately, high speed internet is becoming cheaper and more widespread. Why not get rid of your telephone company and make your phone calls over the internet? Learn more by visiting our blog: http://bit.ly/1qqlyEC

Cloud Expo Silicon Valley 2013 | Why Lease When You Can Buy Your CloudMark Hinkle
Perhaps one of the perplexing things about cloud computing is the choice around renting time in someone else’s cloud (Amazon, Google, Rackspace or a myriad of others) or building your own. It’s not unlike the age-old car buyer’s dilemma, take the lower payments and lower total miles lease or buy the car and drive it for the long haul. Cloud computing users are often faced with the same conundrum. This presentation will focus on how to buy and build a cloud that can be fulfill the needs of most users including strategies for making use of the open source private cloud or managing workloads in both the private and public cloud using open source software.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Understand today’s traditional model
Understand the challenges involved with modern IT
Introduce what we call the “Server-Led” IT model
How that model is increasing it’s capabilities to solve more problems
A glimpse into the future
A typical IT model…
Everyone has a Primary Device, which stores apps (left) and files (right)
Which is connected to Company Servers, which also stores apps (left) and files (right) – note: servers can be on-premise or in a data centre (and even public cloud)
Then the network has access to various (and growing) SaaS solutions, which also have applications (left) and files (right)
Then, when secondary (often personal) devices come into use, there is increased complexity through more apps, storage and not controlled by company servers
ADDING SUBTITLES (left)
--
1. …This is what we call the “Device-Led IT Model”, a typical IT Model of today.
You can see the productivity/flexibility-related challenges of a user with the complexity between each row.
…and we’ve also now highlighted the Compliance related challenges of modern-day IT (right – talk through).
To summarise the challenges of today’s popular IT model then:
High complexity, increasing risks (increasing with every SaaS product adopted), reduced user experience.
BUT… we’ve been working on a different model with clients for a few years now.
To some, this may not be new – but the second part will more likely than not be new to all (back to the diagram)…
…so here’s the device-led model you’re all familiar with.
What we do differently starts with the desktop (point bottom-middle)…
We take the user’s desktop environment away from their primary device and move it to the company’s servers (on-premise, private or public cloud). And with it come the applications and files, into one safe and unified environment.
The device is just used to mirror the desktop from the servers, meaning no data is actually downloaded (clearing up any risks associated).
That means it doesn’t matter what device is used, so any secondary devices act in the same way (again clearing up associated risks).
…
You can see we now have a much lower risk environment which, for the user, is more flexible (same experience, any device) and more productive (more things in one place).
1. We call it the Server-Led IT Model (our terminology – you might have seen the same elsewhere).
Where an organisation requires high compliance and/or workforce flexibility, it always outweighs internet and cost “drawbacks”.
However, failed to reach the masses... probably for those two reasons.
1. BUT! It’s beginning to fulfil a further requirement… which is important to the majority of businesses…
A consistent problem across both models is a lack of control over (the growing) SaaS products (only control is access privileges).
BUT, with a server-led model – when users are only ever accessing one consistent environment for all of their work – we can now start to regain control with one simple change: single sign on.
1. By adding single sign-on – through a product called Citrix Workspace – we can now use the session to monitor usage in the same way we might in the internal network, using what Citrix call their “Secure digital perimeter”.
Which will take the top row from red…
...to green! All because users can’t work any other way. BUT it’s still a model that helps them be more productive and work from anywhere.
Let’s look at the features of Citrix Workspace in more detail…
unified digital workspace for business … with features to make people more productive
To make this possible, we have brought together:
One way to get instant access all your business apps – SaaS, mobile, web and virtual
One way to organize and open your most recent files, regardless of whether they are on your hard drive, a network share, in the cloud …. or all of the above
One that integrates what you already have deployed on-premises and is ready to support your move to the cloud
One consistent experience across all your devices ….
All of which is dynamic and adaptive thanks to analytics and secured via the digital perimeter.
The result is that you have EVERYTHING you need to be productive, in one experience.
Here it is.
Instant access to your web, SaaS, Windows, Linux, mobile apps, desktops and files from an easy-to-use, integrated interface makes Citrix Workspace a truly comprehensive digital workspace solution.
Consistent user experience across devices
Personal apps and work apps can securely coexist on your personal device without compromising the security of company data
File synchronization across workspace
Integration of files synch and share capabilities throughout the Citrix Workspace makes it easy to collaborate within a virtual desktop and then quickly transition to your mobile device for on-the-go updates
Workspace app will automatically launch an important file within a published application to ensure that the user can remain productive even when the associated application isn’t locally installed
All SaaS apps are secured through advanced policies, like watermarking, to prevent data loss.
Creating a model of normal behavior for your users:
logon location, number of files shared, uploaded or downloaded. This allows the Analytics service to detect anomalies in user patterns and apply a risk score to each user based on their behavior across ShareFile and other Citrix products/services.
If a user’s risk score exceeds your threshold, the analytics service can automatically disable their account or disable recently created share links to mitigate the risk that their account had been compromised.
