(What CRM Admins Do Best!)
Data Integration is more about business processes than the actual data itself.
Knowing all the players involved takes skill, and keeping the focus on
developing efficient processes is the ultimate goal.

What is CRM Data Integration?
Each app must maintain its own
database, or when you want to import or
export large amounts of data,
mechanizing the transfer of data among
pertinent systems helps preserve the
consistency and quality of data across
the entire organization.

Editor's Notes

  • #3 Who am I and why am I here? Salesforce Administrator for > 10 years (I started when I was 12)! I’m a firm believer in it isn’t WHAT you know, and it isn’t WHO you know - it is how you combine those two things together to get things done! We have an Enterprise-level org where we manage our business end-to-end on a single platform. Marketing with Pardot Sales in the CRM Project/Resource Management in the FinancialForce PSA App Accounting/Finance in the FinancialForce Accounting App As a result of our acquisition by JLL last year we are currently working through integration needs to sync our system and data with the JLL Systems.
  • #4 Who am I and why am I here? Salesforce/Marketo/Customers on SFDC, SAP, MS Dynamics, Eloqua, Marketo, data warehouse Biggest B2B database in the world. 50M/120M/4K. 2M records just yesterday. Quote -- “Emily, you are a self-rescuing princess. If you find a bug, either squish it or free it, but no screaming.” The same mantra applies anyone who works in data integrations -- you’re bound to find bugs, but panic gets you nowhere, and knowing your options and making clear-headed choices makes all the difference in the world.
  • #5 [Erin lead] Let’s talk integration. Myriad requests, many motivations. POLL
  • #6  Poll Title: Which of these users ask you for data integration support? https://www.polleverywhere.com/multiple_choice_polls/zD2aUUsocHFLacT
  • #7 I’ve literally held AND served all of these roles in varying capacities over my career. Unofficial poll: “Voluntold” -- Admin often has to figure this out on their own. Give yourself grace. Keep your customers happy, even if your data doesn’t come with a tidy bow. Ask a business questions re: the data. Don’t build APAC models with EMEA data. Know the source and the intended audience.
  • #8 [Nana lead] Ideally, it would be simple, but in reality you are typically handed a square peg and told to put it in the round hole.
  • #9 [Nana lead] As the SF Admin you are responsible for bringing all the people and data together to work seamlessly. You become the facilitator between these groups of people to ensure the right data is getting to the right place, at the right time and in the right condition!
  • #10 [Nana lead] I was thinking we can talk about the players and talk about the tools available (including X-Author). Talk about some examples of integrations – from the simple (someone has a spreadsheet of customers they want in the system) to the complication (integrating back-end systems with real-time pushes) and anything in-between! And we can maybe leave them with a slide of resources (some links to tools, blogs, trailheads, etc.)
  • #11 What are you biggest challenges with data integration? •       What are your favorite tools to use for data integration? •       What is an example of a roadblock you faced in integration and how you got around it? •       What do you do if you don’t know what to do? •       User groups •       Participate in forums •       Ask the people you trust how they solve problems
