Back-up care, often referred to as emergency care, supports employees and
organizations by enabling employees to get to work on occasions when their dependent-
care arrangements break down. By providing easy-to-access, high-quality replacement
care, back-up care alleviates the employee’s worry and stress while limiting the
employer’s associated losses in productivity. Healthy or mildly ill care is available for
children (infant through school age) in a child care center or at home, as well as for
