Parental access
Applications within an IMS system
 It means that all your information is in one place
and can be accessed easily by all staff
 All information is shared across different
applications within an IMS system
 Changes made to a student’s details will show in
all IMS applications – there is no need to access
other add on applications to make these changes,
which saves time and means all staff are seeing the
same information
 It can save time and money by using text or e-mail
to communicate rather than paper based
information
For staff - it means that they have instant access to
the following:
 Registers/Attendance
 Behaviour management
 Mark sheets/Reporting
 SEN information/Pupil Premium
 General information such as contact details,
ethnicity, medical, previous school
 Learning Gateway – an accessible way of
setting homework for students.
For parents - the Learning Gateway is a way for
parents to be kept informed about their child’s
education:
 Viewing Reports
 Keeping track of their attendance to individual
lessons
 Viewing their progress in all subjects
 They can also see what homework has been set
and the status of this homework
For students – it is a way of having instant access
to their homework, which means they are able to
interact with their subject teacher whilst at home.
Recently, programmes like ‘Show my Homework’
have become hugely popular, but this is actually
redundant, if schools were to use the Learning
Gateway to its full potential.
 It is important to be able to show all schools the
capabilities of an IMS system, so they do not buy
into other applications that merely duplicate what
it can do already.
 We need to show the potential of an IMS system
and its applications. It can make all other
programmes, i.e. ‘4Matrix’, ‘Show my Homework’
redundant.
 Schools need to utilise the element of the SIMS
Learning Gateway so that all stakeholders can
access the resource and that schools get the best
value for money.
I believe having an IMS system in a school is
essential because:
 It can cut costs, so saves money
 It gives teachers more time in the classroom
 It helps to make a more efficient, productive
staff (both teachers and support staff)
 It helps to track progress of students in a
variety of ways in order to monitor progress
and is flexible enough to be adapted for
individual teacher’s needs.
