The Great State of Design with CSS Grid Layout and FriendsStacy Kvernmo
For far too long we’ve been forced to reuse layout patterns that have worked in the past, creating a web full of sites that all look the same. Lack of browser support, no true layout system, and designers who are forced to make safe decisions for budget or timeline reasons have led us to create work that is rarely creative nor inspiring.
I’ve spent years exploring how we can make the web a more unique space. Many CSS properties have been overlooked, but support has grown and many of these features are available now or can be used as enhancements. One of these new features is CSS Grid Layout, which will play a major role in layout design. Having a true, 2 dimensional grid will give our layouts much more flexibility and it is on us to explore the possibilities.

For far too long we've been forced to reuse layout patterns that have worked in the past, creating a web full of sites that all look the same. Narrow timelines, browser support restrictions and lack of a true grid system have led us to create work that is "good enough".
I've spent years exploring how we can make the web a more unique space. With some of the newer CSS techniques available, we can start to make more creative designs. CSS Grid Layout is on the horizon and will play a major role in the design of our sites. Finally having a true, 2 dimensional grid will give our layouts much more flexibility and it is on us to explore the possibilities.
This talk was presented at CSS Day 2016.
Today’s designers when asked about HTML5 do hesitate to answer because of the lack of knowledge about HTML5.A Free Ebook On HTML 5 Step by Step Guide..
I’m going to talk about some practical uses of CSS3 animations, transitions and transforms. You know, something you can use for almost any client.
While animating comics and recreating logos in CSS3 show just how powerful it can be, it’s not really useful or cost effective for actual productions. I’m going to show you some smaller animations that are super quick to implement and give just the right amount of movement. I’ll first teach you the basics of CSS3 transitions, transforms and animations. Then, I’ll show you some examples of animations I’ve used for my own clients, to give you a taste of just what can be done.

Have you ever had a dream project that slowly evolved into a state of mediocracy by the time it launched?
We may have an epidemic on our hands: complacency. This disease is often triggered by short timelines, unset expectations, corporate red tape, lack of research, budget and sometimes motivation.
Fortunately, there is a cure! Together, we will focus on how to keep pushing past the status quo to create something in which we can all be proud.
Sass Code Reviews - How one code review changed my life #SassConf2015Stacy Kvernmo
After writing CSS for over 10 years you'd think you would know everything there is to know, right? I couldn't be more wrong and I found out the hard way. While my first formal code review session was painfully embarrassing it was also the most important lesson I have learned throughout my career. Code reviews force you to communicate on a different level which ultimately leads to more thoughtful coding practices. When writing Sass and other pre-processed languages it is even more important that you review your code continually, which even the more seasoned front end developers may neglect at times.
Bottom line: Code reviews will make you better.
No pain, no gain. CSS Code Reviews FTW.Stacy Kvernmo
CSS is often overlooked as something that would require a code review. The test for good CSS has been "Does everything look good?"
With the complexity and scale of our projects these days, "looks good" is simple not enough. This presentation dives into what it takes to create or progress a positive and beneficial code review process for yourself or your team.
With the popularity of responsive design, it seems like the process and tools that have been used in the past are certainly not ideal for the present. So what is the best solution?
Lets explore the available options and discuss how we communicate with our client as well as our developers in this ever changing world of web design.
What is the best way to handle the design process? Photoshop, design in the browser, handling responsive design all while handling client expectations.

Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. This paper provides actionable insights and strategic recommendations for businesses seeking to leverage branding, social media, and website design as potent tools to enhance their market position and financial success.

id you always want to be an illustrator?
Yes—I’ve been drawing ever since I was really
little, but I studied graphic design when I went to col-
lege, and pretty much worked solely on graphic design
for 10 years after that. However, the school I went to
was really focused on studio art; it was more traditional,
I think, than most schools. I did a lot of screen printing
too, which I love because it uses both the problem-
solving skills of a designer and the drawing skill of an
illustrator. I stuck with graphic design for a really long
time, but there was always a part of me that wanted to
draw more.
Recently I’ve transitioned into doing that: these days
I do branding and identity design as a part-time job, and
spend most of my time doing illustration. Even with
