PYTHAGORAS
•He was known best for the proof of
the important Pythagoras theorem
,which is about the right angle.
PYTHAGORAS THEOREM
• Pythagoras theorem is the sum of the area
of the two square on the legs (A and
B)equals the area of the square on the
hypotenuse(c).
PYTHAGORAS THEOREM
This is the critical
geometrical figure that will
help us to prove the
Pythagoras theorem.
•4 congruent or equal right
triangles
•The sort side of one triangle
is “a”
•The long side is “b”
•The hypotenuse is “c”

• Area of a triangle is {1/2 base height}
• Area of right triangle is {1/2b h}
• The length of one side of the
square is “c” a b

The length of one side of the big square is (a+b)
Area of square is S = (a+b)

• The area of the big square is the key to this
problem and it can be derived in 2 ways
• Method 1:- area = (a+b)
• Method 2:- add the area of the small square
and the area of 4 right triangles:-
Area=
c+4(1/2ab)
=
c +2ab
The result in both the methods are equal , which is

•Pythagoras had a great impact on
mathematics. His theories are still used in
mathematics today. He was one of the
greatest thinker of his time.
•There is not much information about his life.
He was said to be have a good childhood . He
is described as the first pure mathematician.
