During Google’s I/O 2016 conference, presented a new set of tools for VR
They called it daydream
-Set of tools for developers
-Specific hardware (controller + headsets)
-Daydream-ready smartphones
-Daydream-ready experiences

---Through Google Play
---Still they don’t call them apps
---Full of terms like Dreamscape, dreamlike, etc.
By using the term Daydream, Google seems to draw a parallelism between the experience of virtual reality and the experience of dreaming.
But this is part of a bigger phenomenon.
Dream Vision is the company responsible for Dream360, a VR device that streams content directly from your phone and that also digged the oneiric branding reference.
Kortex, a project that was recently crowdfunded on Kickstarter receiving close to $117,000 is a project that delivers a low dose alternating current shocks to the back of your skull for reducing stress and helping sleep while using VR.
Relaxation, meditation and sleep apps are one of the most popular categories in VR media.

Including an overwhelming support from the ASMR community, for those of you interested in this phenomenon.
And because this is 2017, there’s even an anime waifu sleep simulator, where you can sleep next to or over the lap of Rem, the famous character from RE: Zero - Starting Life in Another World
The selection of the name “Daydream” to invoke virtual reality can be interpreted as an intentional association between VR and dream, or an example of Google’s executives instinctively drawing the comparison between the two.
Either way, it highlights the historical connection between dream and visual media, and how it’s been stressed with each new iteration of visual media facilitated through technology.
They aren’t the first drawing this analogy between moving image and subconscious.
Gareth Brewer Thesis
This document provides an overview of Gareth Brewer's process for creating the 3D animated short film "Ersatz". Some key points:
1) Brewer went through an extensive pre-production process that included writing multiple drafts of the script, creating concept art and storyboards, and designing the main character Rivatt.

The Glitch in Digital Humanity
- 1. Amanda Carlson 5//12/2017 Media Theory The Glitch in Digital Humanity Searching for reality in digital creations in many ways is an oxymoron. Our media alone is based on more media. The hyperreality of our world and our culture makes the basis of reality even less feasible. What is our reality? Where does the digital human fit in with our perception? My art piece on this topic will reflect this. The digital human flaws in many ways is in the perfection the computer uses to calculate lighting and color. Can imperfection be added to suite reality or is this digital output still too perfect? This perfection in the outcome is the unintended effect of the use of the computer. Unintended effects are typically referred to as a glitch. This glitch will be visibly shown and hidden in my project. The topic of uncanny has be used and represented in many different formats. It typically isn’t a desired effect. However, it is the purpose of my project. I will explore the uncanny through the use of a cgi robotic human. I will use the same mode and figure to create a change. This change will show the uncanny robotic human to a much more realistic but as a uncanny human. During this stage a video glitch will occur. I’ve learned through my studies that the uncanny has a duality. As Freud has said, ”These themes are all concerned with the phenomenon of the 'double', which appears in every shape and in every degree of development. “1 Uncanny as a tool of semiotics can have significantly different meanings. - 2. uncanny. This unease will be shown and heard. Uncanny sounds of nature and reality will be distorted and placed with my video. The effect should be subtle but interesting and complex. It will be interesting to see the effect of the uncanny and hyperreality used as a basis of my video. Will my uncanny robot be seen as more real or will the human like version? What does it tell the audience and the artist ?
