The aim of a public gallery is to be a cultural institution for the public
people
Educate and inform the general public, schools and universities and to
collect and promote art.
Non profit organisations- they do not operate to generate an income
Funding is from the government ( state/ federal / local), business and
donations
Public galleries use funding from company sponsorship to promote
exhibitions along with their allocated budget.
Fundraising through the gallery ( friends of the gallery) include social
events and activities.

The aim of a commercial gallery is make money
through the selling or lending of artworks
Commercial galleries operate as a business and
therefore make profit for the ownwer/s.
A commercial gallery will generally have a stable
of artist in which they provide their gallery space
for exhibitions and charge a commission of sale
15%-30%
The gallery space may also be hired out at a fee
for other artist wishing to exhibit their woks.
8. Commercial Gallery
Commercial galleries require a submission from
the artist including a CV outlining concepts of the
exhibition to be held, images of current and
previous artworks. A list of any previous exhibitions
that the artist has been in.
They will generally require finical assistant other
than the commission sale profit. This is to cover,
promotion, staff, catering, electricity ect.
Generally these galleries only have work for a
short time in their stock room and some require a
waiver for any unforeseen damages that may
occur.

free site that allows you to upload your artworks
for free.
You may be part of a collaborative arts project in
which funding is provided via council,
government or private parties.
