1. Anna works as a chemist creating perfumes and accidentally adds fruitcake to a new perfume she's making. 2. When she wears the perfume, her boss takes notice of her and asks her out to dinner, acting strangely attracted to her. 3. At dinner, her boss's behavior towards her changes drastically and embarrassingly. A fight breaks out between her boss, his girlfriend, and a waiter infatuated with Anna. 4. 3. 1.Anne works as a chemist at the Amos
Cosmetics factory in New Jersey, USA. Her
work is to design new perfumes. One day, as
she is mixing flowers and other things to
create a new perfume, she throws in a piece
of fruitcake from her lunch. Once the
perfume is made, she puts some on her hand

4. 2.Her boss, David Amos, strangely takes
notice of her and compliments her on her
looks. Anna is surprised as Mr Amos usually
never speaks to ordinary looking people like
her. She is more taken aback when Mr
Amos invites her out for dinner.

5. 3.At home, Anna is dismayed to find that Aunt
Mimi has come for a visit. Aunt Mimi is
always trying to find a husband for her. She
wants Anna to meet ‘the perfect boy’ that
she has found for her. Anna tells them she is
seeing her boss that night.

6. 4.That night, Mr Amos does not behave in a
friendly manner. Instead, he appears
embarrassed and awkward. He tells Anna
he is taking her to dinner as a reward for
her hard work. Anna feels insulted by his
behaviour. She needs to be alone and she
goes to the ladies’ room. There, she sprays
on the fruitcake perfume out of annoyance.

7. 5.As Anna is walking back to the table, a
waiter looks at her as if he is smitten and
knocks down a table with cakes on it. At the
table, Mr Amos again begins to behave
strangely. ‘He looked like a dog who had
just found a bone’. He calls Anna ‘darling’
and say that he is crazy about her. He even
declares his love for her.

8. 6. Anna sees Sabina, Mr Amos’s latest
girlfriend. Anna is taken aback when Mr
Amos confesses his love for her. Sabina hits
Mr Amos in the face. Mr Amos hits the
waiter who is singing to Anna. A fight ensues
between Sabina, Mr Amos and the waiter.
Anna leaves and goes home in a taxi.

9. 7.The next day, Anna visits Aunt Mimi. It is
Aunt Mimi who gave her the special
fruitcake. Anna realises that something in
the fruitcake makes men fall in love. She
wants to know what is in the fruitcake Aunt
Mimi tells her that she had bought in from
an old lady in the market. The old lady puts
‘a special something’ that she grows herself
into the cake. The cake helps those who are
looking for husbands. Anna is dismayed to
learn that the old lady had died ‘last week’.

10. 8.Two days later, Anna goes to work. She is
called to Mr Amos’s office. Mr Amos has a
large black eye. Sabina is with him and she
rudely tells Anna that ‘a rich and handsome
man’ like Mr Amos could not possible love a
nobody like Anna. They further insult Anna
by offering her ‘a bit of money’ to forget the
whole incident. In anger, Anna throws the
fruitcake perfume on Sabina’s dress and
leaves the office and her career at Amos
Cosmetics.

11. 9.Anna now works at another cosmetics
factory. One day, she gets a surprise visit
from Armstrong, the pizza delivery man
who had delivered pizzas to their house two
years ago when their cooker broke down.
Armstrong now owns the pizza company.
He confesses that he had fallen in love with
her two years ago but he wanted to be a
success before asking her out. Anna
notices, for the first time, that Armstrong is
‘quite good-looking’.

14. SYNOPSIS
Anna is a single, twenty-seven-year-old woman who works as a chemist
for a perfume factory called Amos Cosmetics factory. Her mother and
aunty are always nagging her to get married. One day, her impulsively
makes a perfume using a piece of fruitcake from her lunch. When she
uses this perfume, her rich and handsome boss show interest in her. He
takes her out for dinner. At first, he shows boredom and disinterest
because she is not wearing the perfume, but once she puts on the
perfume, his attitude towards her changes. He falls hopelessly in love
with her. His jealous girlfriend hits him and a fight ensues between
Amos, his girlfriend and a waiter who is also in love with Anna. Anna
tries to find out the recipe for the fruitcake but is disappointed to learn
that the old lady who makes the cake is dead. Back at the office, she
feels insulted when Amos tries to offer her money to forget the whole
embarrassing incident. In anger, she splashes her whole bottle
fruitcake perfume on Sabina and walks away. She quits her job at the
company. At the end of the story, she finds true love in the from of
Armstrong, the pizza delivery man she meets two years ago.
