The Four P’s of
Marketing
By Savanna Dean
- The purpose of marketing is to create value by developing a variety of offerings
including goods, services, and ideas to satisfy the customers needs
- Marketing has been divided into four divisions called the 4 P’s of marketing also
known as the marketing mix
- These four P’s are the key elements in marketing and are the controllable
set of decisions or activities that is used when marketing a product or
service
What is Marketing?
- The 4 P’s of marketing can be used when a company is planning on creating a
new product and trying to optimize sales for the product once released.
- The marketing mix helps marketers develop a strategic strategy that will be
successfully bring in profit onced introduced to the people
- They are the key elements involved in marketing and planning of a product

Delivering the
Value Proposition
Promotion
Communicating the
Value proposition
Product
Creating Value
Price
Capturing Value
Products are marketed as three things: goods, services, and
ideas
Goods: items you can physically touch (ex. jewelry)
Services: There are intangible benefits that are produced by people and
can’t be separated by the producer (ex. A class or session)
Ideas: Thoughts, opinions, philosophies
- The products are the physical things or services sold that will impact and profit
a business
- Understanding what your offer needs to stand out from other competitors is
what will win over customers
Product, Price, Place, Promotion

Goods
Goods fulfill some kind of
need but their value lies in
what they provide and how
they are marketed to the
public. For example, Rolex is
a huge company that sells
luxury watches. What is
different about a Rolex and a
normal watch from Target?
They both do the same thing,
but are marketed differently
to the public and have a
different status
Service
Services are intangible
customer benefits that can
not be separated from the
producer. For example, when
people are buying tickets toa
something, a game or a flight,
they are not buying the ticket
itself. They are buying the
ticket for the experience they
gain.
Goods vs Services
Price is defined as “everything the buyer gives up-money, time, and/or
energy- in exchange for the product
Price is very important for both the buyer and marketers because the
price is determined based on the buyers belief about its value
- This step is crucial while running a business in order to earn
maximum profit while also keeping the buyer satisfied
Product, Price, Place, Promotion
02
The place represents all the activities necessary to get the product to the right
customer at the right time the customer wants it
For example, some businesses use like kiosks or small booths to represent the
businesses effort to improve on the “place” aspect of the marketing mix
Places also deal with marketing channel management known as supply chain
management.
- Supply chain management is defined as the set of approaches and techniques that
firms employ to efficiently integrate their suppliers and manufactures and distribute
in the right quantities and the right location at the right time while minimizing
- Without a strong “place” and marketing system, the customer won’t be able to have
the merchandise when they want it and where they want it
Product, Price, Place, Promotion
03
Promotion is important in order for the company to be successful. A
product could be amazing yet still go unsold without the use of promotion
The marketer uses promotion to inform and persuade the potential
customers into liking their product and influence them into purchasing the
product
A company may use an ad campaign on social media to promote their
product and influence the right audience into buying the product
Product, Price, Place, Promotion
04
Product: Determine what you are selling and how it will benefit the buyer (good or
service)
Price: How much will you charge for the product and how you will maximize your profits
(while still being realistic for the customer)
Place: Where will your product be and what place will give the most profit
Promotion: How will you promote your product and what will be used to influence the
audience
