2. FNCLCC Grading
• = Fédération Nationale des Centres de Lutte Contre le Cancer
• The most common grading system; defined by a combination of
tumor differentiation, mitotic count and necrosis
• For soft tissue sarcoma
• Purpose : to assign a level of differentiation
• Most important factor in prognosis, metastatic risk and management
of soft tissue tumors
3. FNCLCC Grading
• Three parameters are evaluated: tumour differentiation, mitotic
count and tumour necrosis.
• FNCLCC grading is less informative in RMS, Ewing sarcoma, ASPS,
epithelioid sarcoma and clear cell sarcoma; these are by definition
high grade.
• Sarcomas not graded in the FNCLCC system: embryonal and alveolar
rhabdomyosarcoma, angiosarcoma, extraskeletal myxoid
chondrosarcoma, alveolar soft part sarcoma, clear cell sarcoma and
epithelioid sarcoma
