350,000 sites
The map of the Internet is a photo shot of the global network as of end of 2011. It encompasses over 350 thousand websites from 196 countries and all domain zones. Information about more than 2 million links between the websites has joined some of them together into topical clusters. As one might have expected, the largest clusters are formed by national websites, i.e. sites belonging to one country. For the sake of convenience, all websites relative to a certain country carry the same color.
Mobile Internet and optical fibre rolloout
based off of the Internet’s true routing table: BGP. The Border Gateway Protocol is the standard for carrier-class routing on the Internet. A single BGP feed from a provider should contain most of the routes or prefixes available at any given moment. The prefix is also accompanied by what is commonly called an “AS path”. This is the path of networks a packet must take to reach the end network based off that particular BGP feed. A single BGP feed may not include all of the paths to a specific prefix.

Similarity based on pattern of connections (as well as individual attributes)
Enables the association of entities across time and in disparate data sources
Needed when there are no reliable common identifiers
Example: persons by family and household relationships
Can be used to detect changes in the structure of groups
Example: business reorganization, closure, takeover
