The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 amends the Essential Commodities Act of 1955, and came into force on June 5, 2020. It allows the central government to regulate the supply of certain foodstuffs only under extraordinary circumstances and sets conditions for imposing stock limits based on significant price increases. Furthermore, the act repeals the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020, while ensuring any actions taken under the ordinance are recognized under the amended act.
