With branches in San Francisco and San Mateo, the Edgewood Center for Children and Families is
committed to helping others in need. Edgewood improves the lives of families, children and other
individuals by helping them to cope with abuse, mental illness, and other conditions through
counseling services, residential care, school- and community-based programs, and case
management professionals. With more than 800 volunteers, Edgewood is able to help 5,000 people
each year.
As one of the longest running children's charities in the United States, Edgewood considers March
19, 1851, as its birth date. Founded by R.H. Waller, this group began as an orphanage. Nearly a
century after its creation, it transformed its mission into one dedicated to aiding children with
emotional issues. Today, Edgewood utilizes service, training, research, and advocacy to strengthen
families and children throughout its communities. Individuals who would like to get involved with
Edgewood can visit www.edgewood.org to learn about ways to volunteer or donate.
