Leveraging and interpreting library assessment data 4 17 2016Elizabeth Brown
Assessment data can be collected from a multitude of sources from within and outside your library. It’s not just about the size of collections, or number of reference transactions, or hours a library is open. This presentation will review some of the key places assessment information can be gathered and provide strategies to creatively think about assessment data collection for your library.
Measure Twice and Cut Once: How a Budget Cut Impacted Subscription Renewals f...NASIG
Speakers: Ilda Cardenas, Keri Prelitz, Greg Yorba
The process of looking at subscriptions with the goal of proactively downsizing revealed that the library’s existing renewal workflows were outdated and in need of regular analysis to identify underused resources. Additionally, this project uncovered shortcomings of analysis that is reliant on usage data, the unexpected ramifications of large-scale subscription cancellations, as well as the need for improved communication within and between the many library departments affected by subscription cancellations.
Presented by Zena Mulligan, SUNCAT Project Officer for EDINA, at Internet Librarian International, London, 21 October 2014. Zena goes through the stages of the redevelopment of the SUNCAT online serials catalogue, moving from Ex Libris to Solr and improving the interface and functionality along the way.

Data-Informed Decision Making for Digital ResourcesChristine Madsen
This session will provide three case studies of assessment and evaluation programs in libraries--one past, one current, and one future. The cases use three different modes of data gathering and analysis and show the power of understanding user needs and how well your organization is meeting them.
There is a growing trend towards a consolidation of services for Electronic Resource Management (ERM), A-Z journal listings, full text link resolving and discovery services under a single service provider. In many cases, the adoption of a discovery service from a provider that is not the same as the libraries' existing link resolver service means managing multiple knowledgebases. In this session, 3 libraries will provide an overview of their experience and strategies for maintaining separate link resolving and discovery services in lieu of adopting a full suite of services from a single service provider. Each speaker will provide a case study on the advantages and/or challenges of managing their chosen discovery service, EBSCO's EDS, Ex Libris' Primo and ProQuest's Summon, in conjunction with the CUFTS/GODOT open source knowledgebase/link resolver.

The landscape of academic research has changed rapidly in the past decade, with access to high-performance networks, and the focus on data-intensive and interdisciplinary scholarship. Research libraries in North America are developing new services and programs aimed at meeting scholars’ needs for data-intensive, and interdisciplinary research support. Examples of some emerging programs include:
• Supporting digital research (graphical information systems, digital humanities, survey research methodologies, working with large datasets)
• Educating users about copyright and author rights
• Supporting content-creation and publishing activities in numerous ways: institutional repository to store and host works, establishing maker spaces, and developing infrastructure and workflows for more formal library-located publishing efforts
• Collaboration with research offices to educate researchers about federal mandates for open access publications and datasets
• Establishment of data management and archival resources
• Partnering with third-party vendors and with consortia to achieve scale-efficiencies and facilitate impact
• Development of researcher information management systems to support collaboration, discovery, and reporting
We present a case study of the development of a suite of new tools and services at the University of Illinois Library at Urbana-Champaign within its newly established Office of Research to support digital scholarship and to provide sustained and broad access to research. We will also discuss the significant challenges and opportunities of library/campus partnerships for cyberinfrastructure and research support.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
