2. Purpose
The purpose of ‘The Descent’ is to entertain viewers
with there scary thoughts, weird characters and monsters
in the movie. It is to also promote their company more
‘Celador Films’ as its more well known for making
television programs like ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’
instead of films. The film also makes money by even
promoting other brands shown within the film like the
car,‘BMW’.
Neil Marshall the director of ‘The Descent’ also decided
to create the film because of how successful his previous
film was ‘Dog Soldiers’ and the public wanted to see more
of his films particularly horrors.

3. Genre
The Descent is a horror and adventure film where a
group of women go on an journey to the
underground to find that it is not all what it seems
and they have adventured into the wrong cave after
it collapses leaving them with no way to get out.
They also find that they are not alone down there
and that they are surrounded by horrific and
frightening creatures called the ‘crawlers’ that live
in the dark, eat anything that is living and can’t see
you but can hear you. After releasing what there
facing the girls start to panic and are killed one by
one leaving one survivor at the end.

4. Style and Content
The film begins with a beginning, middle and end along with a
prologue and an afterward. Equilibrium starts as a prologue of a group
of women going off rafting the only thing revealed is Sarah's husband
having an affair with Juno and in the car on the way back he starts to
reveal the affair and as soon as the crash happens that is the end of
the equilibrium and the disruption starts when the poles go through
the window killing him and their daughter.
The girls then decide to descend into a cave as a way to get over the
death of Sarah's husband and her daughter not knowing what awaits
them when they find themselves in the wrong cave as it collapses
leaving them trapped with no way out.
As we get to the end of the film they find they are surrounded by a
group of crawlers who live in the dark and eat living creatures like
themselves. The girls are then seen off one by one in disgusting ways
as they try and fight for there survival leaving one survivor at the end.
