14 months before the film was released this website was created  The website contained a list of 3 items for the public to view as it got closer to the release date more items things were added to this list; 14 in total The items were from the jokers perspective and gave the audience the feel that they were more involved in the release of the film. Some of the items got the audience truly involved, one was that the is Joker recruiting an army, were he encouraged fans to dress as the joker during Halloween and post photos, the most impressive received gifts and notes from The Joker and scavenger hunts that lead to private screenings of vandalized Dark Knight trailer. whysoserious.com
The teaser contained a pitch black screen where the occasional flash of light revealed the iconic batman logo this got more frequent as the trailer went along. This was released just to reveal any understanding about the film actually existing at this point the audience new very little and this release only started the hype up to release. This website was also created as a site were the audience could interact with the film here the main purpose is reveal the first picture of the joker by having the audience send emails to reveal the picture and when every pixel was revealed the audience had access to an audio file from the film. The full theatrical trailer was released on the 17 th  of December 2007 4 months after the teaser was released still 9 months before the films release. Full theatrical Trailer
Leading up to the films release they made various poster giving more and more information to a release date and actors, in total there were 24 released but most were “vandalized” \ versions of original posters released. Timeline of posters for the film
